In this how to you will see the process of installing cobra bob's shifter gasket kit on an 01' cobra, other models similer. The whole install from start to finish took about an hour. this is a fairly simple install for the technically challenged out there.

vehicle: 2001 cobra, 3650 trans, and steeda tri ax shifter

here is the link to view purchase info: Stang Shifter Gaskets

tools required:

small pic or mini flathead screwdriver
1/4" rachet
1/4" 8" extension
1/4" 8mm socket
1/4" 13mm socket
1/4" swivel
blue locktight
razor blade
3M red scuff pad
brake clean or degreaser
a couple rags
WD40 or rust buster

Here is a pic of what you will recieve

This is what you will be removing
shiftergasketinstall002.jpg

Start by removing your shift knob (counter clockwise) and remove the cigarette lighter. pull up on the bottom and the tabs should release allowing forward movement disconnecting the forward clips
shiftergasketinstall003.jpg

At this point you will not be able to remove fully until disconnecting the electrical plug on the lighter.
shiftergasketinstall004.jpg

You will see in the pic the orange tab that will have to be pushed in for the clip to release, i used a small pick to apply pressure while pulling out.

Here is the connector view once removed

In this pic you will see the shifter cover plate and the 4 8mm bolts that retain it. To remove the bolts you may need to crack them loose (counter clockwise) and spray a little rust penetrator spray to allow them to come out fully.
shiftergasketinstall007.jpg

Once bolts are removed, the cover plate will need to be pushed to the driver side and lifted on the paasenger side of the cover to come out.

If you have a one piece handle bypass these steps and move to shifter removal. start by loosening the 2 13mm bolts holding the shifter handle shifter base.
shiftergasketinstall013.jpg

I choose to take them out the rest of the way by hand so i do not drop any washers or bolts, this is the handle removed, ewwww, this will need to be cleaned up.
shiftergasketinstall014.jpg

The rubber boot will just pull up, just set to the side to be cleaned. you will also notice the four 13mm bolts holding down the shifter, place trans in nuetral. lossen and remove all 4 bolts.
shiftergasketinstall015.jpg

The shifter may require a little force to be removed, due to silicone holding it together. once removed make sure a rag is ready to keep any fluid from getting on the interior.
shiftergasketinstall018.jpg

This is were you will be scraping off the old silicone with the razor blade
shiftergasketinstall020.jpg

After scraping off enough of the silicone, you can take off the rest using the 3m scuff pad

This is how it looks finished up
shiftergasketinstall022.jpg

When taking off the old silicone from trans surround, scrape towards the outside keeping debris to a minimum in trans, a rag may be placed in here as well.
shiftergasketinstall023.jpg

This is how it should look after using the scuff pad.
shiftergasketinstall024.jpg

Now we start the install process, place the shifter gasket onto trans and be sure all holes line up with gasket in a squared up position. took me a couple turns and flips to get this right.
shiftergasketinstall025.jpg

place shifter onto gasket being careful to line up holes before placing on top of gasket, once placed down thread in bolts lightly, you can use a little bit off locktight at this point on bolt threads.
shiftergasketinstall026.jpg

Tighten down bolts in an X patern to specified torque or till fairly snug.
shiftergasketinstall027.jpg

With the handle being cleaned up, install the top bolt and handle gasket
shiftergasketinstall028.jpg

install the other bolt and loosely screw them in by hand, i choose to wait on adding locktight at this point incase i wanted to add the second spacer. tighten down bolts.
shiftergasketinstall030.jpg

Place the removed boot from earlier over the shifter base
shiftergasketinstall031.jpg

reinstall the cover plate, and reinstall the 4 8mm bolts, and tighten down in a X pattern.
shiftergasketinstall033.jpg

reistall the cigarette clip
shiftergasketinstall034.jpg

place shifter handle through opening first then clip down cover into place to keep from handle ripping through boot.
shiftergasketinstall035.jpg

reinstall shift knob and lighter and go on a test drive, if you still want less vibration you can install the second handle to base gasket, but i was more than happy with one installed

Very nice job with the instructions! Thanks for doing it. If you approve, I'd like to add them to my website because they'll help other buyers. :)

I do mail these out to European customers assuming you're in Germany. It would mail by International First Class Mail. If you'd like a set, just go to my website (link below) and order both the gasket set you need (should be CB-2 for your V-6 Stang) and the International Postage Surcharge CB-8.
