What is the difference between the m5230 5GT and m5230 SGT?
I put 5gt on my 500 last night and I'm not sure I like them. What is the difference between the two?

I've tried both. The 5GTs are made for GTs and the SGTs are for GT500s. The 5GT's tips stick out further, while the SGTs are flush with the rear valance. The 5GTs are a bit louder and drone more than the SGTs. They are both Borla Stingers, but the SGTs have 4 baffles inside of them. I'm happy with my SGTs because they fit better and IMO have a more tuned sound. Just my .02 cents. :coolman:

Like he said, the SGT's have the baffles inside for reduced drone and resonance.

Personally, I tried the SGT's and with the stock X pipe; they suck the butt in terms of drone at 2k. There's no way I'd put up with them. The tone is all wrong inside, but they do sound nice and deep outside.

I went to BoomTubes and they're everything I had wished the SGT's had been. NO drone, but they are pretty loud. They have the perfect 60's musclecar sound with no popping on decel and completely break into song around 3k. They don't sound like glasspacks or anything weird, they're quite deep as well.

most people that went with the Sgt's wish they would have stayed with the
5GT's...IMO, the Sgt's are too quiet

The 5GT's have a unique sound at full song which to is perfect...it's the 1800 to 2000 rpm drone that I'm not liking at all.

Is there anything I can do to quiet the drone? Future mods I have in mind would be your stage II with a JLT Cai.

Yeah, run a real "X" instead of the OE Ford (Bassani copy).

Magnaflow, SLP or the FRPP style bolt in should help kill a good notch of the drone.

I've heard this before, so a good X-pipe will help quiet the drone or is the exhaust so loud the drone doesn't seem as bad. Serious question, I'm not being a smart @ss.

Speaking from experience, once I installed my H pipe (Power House) the drone went bye/bye (Nothing at all, and I mean nothing.) Now my 5GT's have a deeper/throatier tone and IMO sound bad ass!

Thank you, sounds great from outside the car. So you're telling me you have no drone after installing a power house h-pipe?

that's correct, 1800-2000 doesn't exist anymore
it actually took me awhile to get use to no drone
I would find myself pushing the gas just to make sure
she was still alive...lmao...

and as I said, much deeper tone now with the H, more like don't fu@# with me tone now

Add to this question..what are on the KR's? I was told M-5T30S by a Ford dealer who has 2 KR's on their lot. Said they were different than M-5230 SGT.

^^ He had good luck with the Powerhouse H; from my other experiences a real X will work as well. Just anything other than the OEM Bassani-like design midpipe.

The KR mufflers are completely different from the 5GT/SGT. They're round cans, larger/longer with resonator/perforated core, double-walled tips, round-edge instead of slash cut.

The KR mufflers aren't *quite* as deep or loud as the SGT's unless you put them with an H pipe (which is the only way I'd run them); otherwise they get real "rippy" and high pitched with an X.
