urethane motor mounts for 00 R

Dropped my kmember to change out the oilpan on my 00 R and to do some detailing, before I dropped the K-member, I noticed that the oil pan was scuffing the steering rack on the passengers side, there was a height diff of around 1/8 - 3/16th of an inch in height between the to sides of the engine, it appears that the mounts are starting to stretch on the driver's side and compressing on the passenger's side which would be consistent with these mounts having alot of torque applied to them...I went ahead and removed them to do some comparisons between the two sides and with some after market urethane mounts from prothane and energy systems.

the drivers side mount is between 1/4 and 5/16ths of an inch taller, when installed in the car with weight of the engine and k-member, there is about 1/8th difference, this is the amount needed to be installed on the pass side to get the oil pan off of the rack, the clearance between the rack and the pan is around 1/32 of an inch or so.

The prothane mounts are approx 1/4" taller on the pass side and about the same on the drivers side, but when installed, the engine height is increased approx 1/4 to 5/16".....I did not even bother to install the energy systems mounts, they were 1/2" taller than the prothane mounts, so I knew those would be a problem

It appears that these rubber mounts compress quite a bit when installed.

Since I am going to drag race this car, I would really rather have the prothane mounts....

has anyone here used any aftermarket mounts on their 00 R's

regards

Bill A.

If you think hood clearance will be a problem or driveline vibration issues.... couldn't you just add another 1/4" spacer between the k-member & framerail to "lower" the engine in the compartment?

I do know with the Prothane mounts you will feel quite a bit more vibration from the engine at idle and the driveline at speed.

concerned about hood clearance, adding another spacer would be my last option, but easy enough to do

I can tell you that my car has a Kenny Brown Tubular K-member and the engine is sitting higher than stock. It was raised at least 7/16" or so because the KB strut tower brace just barely clears the intake... by maybe a 1/16 of an inch. On other stock k-member '00R with a KB strut tower brace there is enough room to get your fingers between the intake & brace.

Hmmm,

I am sure that I would have enough room then...did not consider that the kb brace actually clears the hood, that adds at least an inch or so to the engine height...any trouble with your intake hitting the brace when the engine moves?

There are not any scuff marks on the intake were the brace has rubbed it... but I bet as the car gets more mileage & age it will become an issue. Right now it only has a tad under 7k miles on it.
