So the Blackberry is getting old and I saw this commercial. General searching has not turned up much more than its a motorola phone that is supposed to like the iphone. Is anyone planning on getting one when they come out? Why does George Lucas own (by trademark) the word Droid?

Whats the details on this thing?

PS Not going to get an iphone because I won't switch to AT&T.

The motorola droid is going to be an amazing phone, search some more, it has had three names but it is now called droid, running android 2.0, you can get a multimedia dock for 30$, its got one of the biggest, highest resolution screens ever(3x the pixels of an iphone screen) 5megapixel camera, android now has over 12,000 applications with hundreds more daily. 16gb sd card included.

I-phone contract with att expires in 2010, if the I-phone goes to open market, it will murder the sales of this seemingly good phone.

Here's a couple links that will probably help you out.

First is from Phandroid.com. It's just a quick video hardware overview. They should have a full video review early next week.
Motorola Droid Hardware Overview | Android Phone Fans

The second is from Boygeniusreport.com. Just goes over some official specs with a few photos.
Motorola DROID finally official, coming November 6th for $199 « Boy Genius Report

Just keep an eye on those couple sites and you'll get all the information you'll ever need about the Motorola Droid and other Android devices. HTC will be launching an Android device on Verizon just a couple weeks after the Motorola. Unlike the Motorola, it will be a candy bar style phone; no slide out keyboard (think iphone) so if you prefer an on-screen keyboard then you might wanna look into that. It's called the Eris, I believe.

The Droid has an actual onscreen keyboard as well. I guess Motorola is giving people the option to use whichever one they like, though the reviews don't seem so fond of the slide-out keyboard. And as far as the Eris, it's going to be Verizon's Hero. These phone look good.

"Droid" is just the name of every phone running Android 2.0. The Motorola version's name is the Motorola Shoals. It looks like a Palm Classic from 1998 and the hardware keyboard looks almost unusable for anyone that has hands bigger than a baby. I'm jut not a fan of Android, but the HTC device does look nice. I'll stick with this for now:

It'll take a huge chunk of the market from BB users that aren't corporate driven.

I've used a few of our new Droid based phones and they fly. The operating system just feels like it was made in a shed out back.

 I thought there was an E in it, but it just didn't look right and spell check didn't like it either.

It may. BB users really like that form factor. If the Shoales didn't have such a shitty keyboard it could be a winner.

Eh. I don't see them making a CDMA version with LTE around the corner.

and TMO's 3G isn't the right freq.
