maybe top fuelers should dump their 7000hp V8's cars and go with a EVO IX they seem to make so much power so easily..

lets see.. 4 sec 1/4 miles at 100 mph will be the future of them..

Good one.

No they don't really have to sell the good old V8's. We have a member here who has a stock Cobra engine with just a KB and a properly set up. Guess what, he runs 9's.

awww, thanks.. of course a daily driver 10 sec EVO would SUCK.. talk about NO low end power, and when it does come on... (would be like a S2000 on crack) give me the low end power of a positive displacement blown V8 any day..

Yeah my friends eaton car went 10.80's and its not even ported, he has 2.8 pulley intake and exaust, 3.73 gears, solid axle swap, full suspension, k member, racing seats slicks and skinnies and he went 10.80@127 and its stock motor stock unported eaton s/c and 6 speed still.

With the advances in tuning and turbo technology, it's not as bad as you think. A bump in compression does wonders for off boost driving. It'll never make V8 torque at 1000rpms, but a nice 5000rpm powerband can make up for that.

having driven a friends 03 EVO, after market cams, stock turbo, max boost out of that turbo, larger injectors, dyno tune.. 300 hp on 91 octane and 350 on e85, it's a DOG down low and not till it starts developing boost does it get fun to drive.. also, the cams are so large, that at times it will die when your coming to a stop..

and your right having a powerband that's 5000+ rpm is nice especally with a V8

silver03 sounds like your buddy needs to find someone who knows how to tune. Giant cams, why? I can't think of one time my car has stalled on me. Its not bad driving a AWD low 11 high 10 sec. street car that gets 25 MPG. As far as turbo lag goes it is a stock turbo evo9, there is no lag. The car makes full boost at 3500 rpm's. 450 lbs of torque at 3550 rpm's.

03-04s were bad about stalling issues with aftermarket cams. I run decently sized cams and never once had my car stall on me. Well I take that back, when I went to a lightweight twin disk clutch, it would stall on me with the a/c on, but that was a pretty easy fix.

They do tend to be a little on the soft side under 3000, but you can't ask for much from a low compression 4 banger. That's why I went with higher compression pistons. After driving my buddies 2.3L 10.5:1 compression Evo, I realized that was the way to go.
