Just as the title says. Hunting down a draw in my 2001 Bullitt daily driver but I wanted to see how long it takes the car to go into sleep mode. Still sitting at about 145 milliamp draw right now. Been about 20 minutes or so.

I wish I could remember exactly...but i thinks its around 30-50 minutes. I will say that the ford GEM modules do have a track record for needing to be replaced for voltage drain issues. Good luck, and let us know how everything works out.

Took about 45 minutes and she went to sleep.

2 random questions: What exactly happens when the car goes into "sleep mode" and what would "awaken" the car from sleep mode?

I don't know exactly what all it means I just know that when trying to find a parasitic drain on the battery you have to put your meter in line with one of the battery cables. When you unhook it and then put the meter in line with it and hook it back up the GEM "wakes up" and you have to wait for it to "goto sleep" to get your readings

Now if someone can help me on my drain. I tested first with the radio fuse pulled because I'm convince it's something in the mach 460 killing my battery. With that fuse pulled I believe I was having about a 8 ma draw if I was reading the meter right. When I put the fuse back in it blows my meter. I'm on my third fuse on my meter before pulling the radio fuse back out and bam my meter doesn't blow this time. Something on that radio fuse circuit is jacked up.

Does anyone know how to track this down exactly? I've been in contact with a guy I found on a forum that had the same problem and come to find out the Mach 460 headunit was the problem. I have also heard the amps can cause a drain, however I hear the amps are on a different fuse which I don't see listed in my owners manual.

BTW this is a 2001 Mustang Bullitt with the Mach 460 system in it.

And to verify that I read the meter right, it was set on 200ma. Before the GEM went to sleep it was reading 150.XX and I believe after it went to sleep it read 8.XX This is 8MA correct? Which is well within spec. I have no idea what it registers with the radio fuse in since it blows my meter everytime.

Off topic, but dude your car looks tough in your sig pic. :coolman:

Thanks man! I finally got the stance down right!

Back on topic, I have a similar problem with a drain, if the car sits more than a week the battery is dead. Hopefully someone can chime in with an answer.

BTW just in case I didn't say, the fuse in question is #27 under the dash. I'm not sure what all exactly ties into that circuit

You know what's amazing is how many people have this issue and don't really care. Either they know about it and just drive the car often enough not to worry about it, or they use a tender if they don't drive it for a day.

Lot's of threads about this all over message boards and like no one ever posts up a damn fix

nailed it on the head.

either driven daily, or on the weekends.

though most my vehicles would lose battery charge after sitting for more than a few days, so its not just a mustang thing. ive replaced alts, batteries, grounds, etc.

I have LoJack anti-theft device in my 2002 GT and 2003 Cobra, and both must stay on a trickle charger, or they drain the battery in about 2 weeks. The dealer confirmed that (in my case) it is caused by the LoJack device.
