I've got a 2009 gt500 that is stock except for axle back sgt's. I see stage 2 kits for about 1100.00 that include a 2.6 pulley, CIA and a tune. I was wondering if 3.73's and UCA and LCA's would be a better bang for the buck. What do you think?

I really think the stock tune on the GT500 is conservative, and does not give enough power for the gearing. Why steepen the gear, just get more power to match. I just put the JLT stage1 tune on, and it made a big difference with stock gears. More power in lower RPM, and the clutch will not chatter anymore coming off from idle, even if I try. Better matched to the stock gears in 2nd and 3rd. I also put on the SVT handling pack, and like that very much as well.....

Go with the stage 1 now, you will be very happy with that. When you get used to that install the 3.73s, that will keep you happy for a couple days....

Stock tires out back: Stage 2 with the UCA

Drag radials: You're gonna want 3.73's or higher with UCA and LCA's.

If you do the latter, I would do a Detroit Truetrac and DSS driveshaft at the same time.

what suspension mods do you recommend to start with?

Adj. UCA and LCA's and gears will make a hell of a difference worth every penny. As far as type that really depends on what you want out of the car and how much you are going to mod your car. I dont think you can go wrong with most brands, its the type of end that will matter. J&M makes some nice ones with poly bushings that are good for mild modded car and they are priced right.

thanks skyhighsd, it's not a daily driver but I don't want to kill the ride on it. I drag race a couple of times a year but nothing to crazy. Just want to wake the car up, it feels lazy down low. What effect does the UCA and LCA make on the ride under normal driving conditions?

I have a 09 KR. The damn thing would bunny hop all the way down the street when I put the power to the rear end. I called Lethal Performance and bought their UPR UCA, LCA's with relocation brachets and adjustable pan hard bar to put the rear back in alignment. I then put on a pair of Nitto555 drag radials. The damn thing hooks like a stripped ape. There is some road noise and the ride is a little harsh at times but it gives you that old school feel when behind the wheel. The car already comes with 3.73's from shelby. They are great!. I would do the suspension first as I did. It's not going to work putting more power if you can't keep the rear end on the road. I am waiting for a pulley, idler and tune from VMP and then I'm done. "Yea right".

I have done all of the above to my '09. Definitely recommend the tune first, best bang for the buck. Gears, control arms, springs, shocks and drag radials should follow shortly :)

well the stage 1 or 2 wont be fun down low, i.e. 1st/2nd gear
but will give you goose bumps in 3rd/4th,etc.,etc......

So think about your needs...Are you the light to light type of person?
Or perhaps the one that likes to drift in 2nd 3rd gear like me.......

in any event, gears and C/A's/springs should be on the short list:burnout:

I have to agree with most a tune and CAI will waken the car up but the suspension needs to be addressed. Just make sure you get an adjustable upper control arm. "When you lower it and do other mods like a 1 piece drive shaft it is a must"! Also tires and gears will waken things up but you will also need some cooling mods to take full advantage of the increased boost if you do a pulley. look at it this way to get the best bang you are gonna spend about 5k or more then you will start to look at a bigger blower....ROFL.

A good suspension with springs and control arms and shocks is gonna run around 2-3k
you saw 1100 for pulley CAI and tune.
cooling mods can go from 300-1500 if you get all the goodies.
Tires 600
gears and locker installed 600+
Drive shaft 600+
so you can see it gets expensive but all are worth it.
I started with suspension then branched out to a cold air and tune.
Then got cooling mods and gears.
Now I go in tomarrow for a pulley and tune.

later when I get real froggy and want to install a cage then I will look at a bigger blower as I am already at the stage of going any faster and a cage is required.

I did the J&M upper and lowers with the poly-ball ends. I did a lot of reading before I chose J&M. To be honest I don't notice any real change in NVH. I'm sure there's some, but I don't notice it. What I do notice is no wheel hop. Mine is a daily driver. That was my first mod. Why add power if you can't use it? You'll go faster if you can get the power to the ground and even stock that's an issue. No matter what you do you should do control arms, at least the upper. They're cheap mods.
