Went down to Mexico to get an idea of how my new 2011 GT runs.

My car:

2011 Mustang GT 'Base' model coupe
650 miles
6 speed manual
3.73 gears
3,560 pounds with a 1/2 tank of gas (without driver)
18" wheels with 235/50/18 Pirelli's
K&N filter
Lethal Performance 3" O/R X-pipe
SCT 93 octane tune by Jon Lund
Driver mod

2003 Mach 1 Mustang
14,000 miles
5 speed manual
3.55 gears
Stock 245/45/17 Goodyear Eagles
Pro 5.0 shifter
K&N filter
FRPP Aluminum driveshaft
Mac Flowpath mufflers (weld in)
Driver mod

This car in good air ran 13.05 @ 108 MPH on the stock Goodyear Eagles just as it sits now.

I know this car well and have driven and riden in the car many, many times since it was new.

I figured it would be a good barometer to see how my new car runs.

We decided to go from a 2nd gear roll so that wheel spin wouldn't be a factor for either car. No passengers in either car. He started around 3,500 RPM's in his car, I'm not sure of my RPM at the start, but think we were running about 25-30 MPH.

I honked it off and we got an even start. On the initial hit the Mach 1 jump out on me by a fender, but almost immediately I was back even and just steadily pulled away from him till I shut down in 5th gear at about 125 MPH. He said I was ahead by a good 5 to 6 car lengths when we stopped.

I was VERY happy with how my car performed as his car is a very good running Mach 1 for the limited mods that he has.

I wasn't able to powershift my car because I have the dreaded 'clutch pedal sticks to the floor at high RPM' problem right now. I shifted as quickly as possible at about 6,900 RPM's while letting off the gas slightly.

I let him drive my car some on the way back from Mexico and he was very impressed with the power of the new 5.0!

I'm looking forward to getting a JLT CAI in a few weeks when they finally hit the market!!

Hope you enjoyed!

Good run and love that color btw.

Thanks  Grabber Blue FTW!!

NICE, how do you like it compared to your Cobra.

I will always love and miss my orange Cobra!! But this new car has more room, rides better, shifts 10x better and runs very good for just the couple mods that I have. My orange car dynoed 498 RWHP & 521 RWTQ so at this point it was definitely faster, but with a few more mods and some sticky tires I think this car is going to surprise alot of people!

I'm also pleasantly surprised at all the attention it gets while I'm driving it. My Competition Orange Cobra vert always got tons of attention, but I'm getting just about as many looks, stares, and 'thumbs up' in this car! I took it to a cruise-in last night and everytime I came back to where I was parked there were lots of people looking at it and asking me all kinds of questions about it. Most everybody loves the way the motor in the car looks!!

I think Lethal Performance's 2011 Grabber Blue GT with the exact same mods as mine dynoed 402 RWHP! I'm going to add a JLT CAI as soon as they are available and wait till the fall to take it to VA Motorsports Park or Rockingham Dragway to see what kind of times I can turn with it.

Very nice.

Thanks

thanks for sharing the story, the new 5.0 is growing on me... scary! LOL!

You're welcome

Yes, they grew on me REALLY quick. It is a VERY fun car!!

good kill but i don't beleive the 5 or 6 car lenth i would beleive 2 or 3 best!!! stock 03 cobra would beat a stock mach1 by 1 or 2 cars..your saying the new 5.0 would put 4 or 5 car lenths on a stock cobra no way!!!

I believe it. Your dealing with a car that has a longer powercurve then the mach 1 and 80 more crank hp, with the weight of terminator coupe. Just doing the math shows that its going to put a solid couple cars, plus he's slightly modded. Checks out for me

Nice man...Good kill!
5 or 6 lenghts might be stretching it a little though....
Jusy my opinion...but you should find a MACH 1 with a few more bolt ons. The stock 3:55 with a 245 45ZR (traction) do not let the MACH 1 shine. I think a MACH with 4:10s, headers /cat-back with some DRs would be a better match up. I would be interested in seeing that one. Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to run into a new 5.0 or SS yet. I would love to know where I stand with my N/A setup.

I have no reason to come on here and make something up. The Mach 1 is my uncle's car and he is the one that said it was 5 or 6 cars. Why would he say his car got beat worse than it did? I know looking in the rear view mirror that 5 or 6 cars would be a very close estimate.

When my 2011 GT was 100% stock it felt as strong as any 100% stock '03-'04 Cobra that I have driven. Lethal Performance's car with the exact same mods as my car made 402 RWHP and my car is about 100 pounds lighter than a stock '03-'04 Cobra coupe. My mods of K&N filter, 3" O/R X-pipe and 93 octane tune is worth about 30-40 RWHP, so it SHOULD be stronger than a 100% stock '03-'04 Cobra.

Thanks  Not to mention superior transmission gearing and a lower rear end gear (3.73 vs. 3.55). These new 5.0 cars are 'no joke'!!!

Thanks  The Grabber Blue is awesome! My uncle; that I was running in the Mach 1, had a Grabber Blue '70 Boss 302 from 1971-1974. I remember riding in that car when I was a kid!!

He now has a Calypso Corral (orange) '69 Boss 302, the '03 Mach 1 (Azure Blue), '93 Reef Blue 331 stroker LX coupe and an '04 Torch Red Cobra coupe.

I think it sounded pretty good with the X-pipe and the factory catback and wasn't going to get any mufflers for a while.

When we finished our run I asked my uncle how the car sounded and he said it sounded good, but he said as I was pulling away from him it sounded a little like a vacuum cleaner and said he thought that I might ought to get some mufflers for the car. I ordered a Flowmaster 'Hushpower' axleback this morning. I think I will get the muffler shop to cut the resonators out and replace them with straight pipe when they put on the axleback.

Nice man...Good kill!

We both just wanted to see how the two cars compared for the fun of it. We were both surprised at how far the '11 GT outran the Mach 1!

I'm sure that one with more mods would have fared better but as I stated above my uncle's car runs very well (13.05 @ 108 MPH on the stock Goodyear Eagles!) for the limited mods that he has. We went from a 2nd gear roll so that the tires would not be a factor in the outcome of the race.

Thanks

A stock Cobra? What are those?

Ha just kidding, but they're getting about as rare as anything these days.

The new 5.0 Mustang can definitely run there is no doubt about that one! However if you uncle's car is a 13 sec flat 1/4 mile car and trapping 108, than with your mild bolt-on Mustang sounds like it is now running a 12 flat and trapping at 115. I am really not sure how well the new 5.0 responds to mods, but that sounds like one big jump.
If this is the case, I might have to get myself on that list and get a new GT on order!!

With slicks and good air it should be capable of running close to those numbers. Lethal Performance's 2011 GT, with the exact mods as mine (with Bogarts and slicks) ran a 12.31 @ 113+ MPH at Darlington Dragway during Mustang Week. It was almost 100 degrees that afternoon/evening and the DA was in the 2800 - 3300 range. That would be a high 11.90's to 12.00's @ 116 MPH pass at sea level.

A stock Cobra is capable of 111-113mph traps vs a stock Mach 1 105-107mph traps.

A 6mph difference in trap speeds is huge, think difference between a regular C5 and a C5 Z06, or a base LS3 vs a C6 Z06.

This is the closest to stock I could find. Both have an intake and exhaust.

Good race, I see the paper result experts are here and saying what is supposed to happen and how the results were off. If the end result was 5 or 6 then so be it. I almost brought a new 5.0 but since I was going to supercharge it anyway I just purchased the Shelby. I learned that if the results do not turn out the way the book says its B.S up here. My brother beat a Z06 with his stang that never should have happened. Somethings are just not possible. I think everytime a race does not go the way they believe it should happen, both cars have to be quartine. Ship them to MYTH Busters and have them disected to see how that happened. Then they should be reassembled so the desired results can be met. Good run, I will be sure to watch out for the new 5.0 when I drive my 94 stang. However in the Cobra, not sounding arrogant but they better FEAR me lol.
