Would like to see both from a roll. Too much chance of loss of traction for both at a launch. If so we won't know who has the best acceleration.

We have decided to go from a 20 mph roll. I have Michelin pilot AS3 tires and he has stock whatever comes on a 2017 GT. First run will be with all traction controls on!!

And if you both can't hold traction at 20 mph then try higher but with tc off. Only real way to determine which has the best acceleration. Of course if you are both dead even at launch, traction or not as you gain speed, then you can determine the faster as you go high in mph.

And how do you know this?
If GT500 hooks, it will be closer than you assume.

Although from a dig the 3.31s suck. 3.73s with drags and the 5.0 is toast imo.
Been there, done that! Have a 14 Shelby, stock..and a boosted 5 liter is usually lighter and faster. Torque is torque, but heavey pigs are heavy pigs. Lighter with less torque usually wins. In my experience anyways.

They are a Lil on the heavy side but that seems to help hooking for me. Killed many boosted gtcs most recent kill was a 750 whp 16 GT. But those new gtcs are no joke when done right

Not to insult anyone here but, if your GT-500 has stock tires don't even think about doing any kind of racing.

I have to ask, if you are running 600+ hp and racing, why in the world would you not be running drag radial tires on the rear?

Even having a second set of rear wheels with DR's mounted is not that expensive.

I just do not understand why people spend so much on big hp/tq and spend so little to get it to the ground.

The coyotes have the vct which will help them in a larger RPM band. Negating traction, I'm thinking the roush will win (power to weight), but it will be interesting to hear the results.

Another vote for the roush getting the W. Better pulley down and throw some DRs on before tomorrow.

It looks like rain or drizzle for Friday, if the weather is poor we will wait til Sunday. No drag tires for these two cars we just want to see how they will match up. I do know that the Michelin hook much better than Goodyears. I wonder why no one brings up that the GT500 has 50 more cubes, the torque curve should be better at lower rpms if traction holds.

once you add boost, more cubes just means more knock resist at the same power level. (Same air volume squeezed into a larger volume means lower pressure).
You do have a longer stroke, which gives you more torque, but he has lower gears... so I don't know which will help more there.

Anyway, what matters is the power at the rear wheels, this will reflect how well the extra cubes are used. Then f=ma... he has more power and less weight, and his vct allows him to keep the torque curve up for more area under the curve.

No race today, road was damp and it would not prove anything + dangerous. Sunday looks to be sun and dry with a little warmer temps. By the sounds of your opinions my GT500 doesn't stand much of a chance. I hope I can make a good showing. Does anyone know how traction control really works?? Has it been improved since 2014? I had a 2008 GT500 and it would spin the tires with traction control on, but the 2014 with Michelins it doesn't spin.
We are a planning on a 55 MPH 6th gear roll on a 4 lane on the way back, but with his 3.73's he should walk away from me. Right???

6th gear roll! Not sure what that will prove. You might have an advantage with torque/cu. ins. but he sure has the gear advantage. You with 3.31 and .50 6th and he 3.73 with .65. Good luck on that race.

My 2013 will spin the tires even with traction control on but not as violently as with it off. Maybe with over 700 rwhp the reason??? Timing is pulled with tc on.

Very different cars. Buy the won you like based off exterior and interior styling and driving feel.

They are not the "same car" by any measure and only share the name "mustang".

Just take the cars to the track for crying out loud. Safe and controlled environment with time slips. With equal drivers the GT will win every time.

55 mph roll in 6th gear?
Your rpm would be just above idle!
It sounds like this guy is stacking the deck in his favor.
HP advantage, weight advantage and now he wants to handcuff you by exploiting his gearing advantage?
How about a 55 mph roll in any gear you want?

6th gear? No no no. Before you go to drive out to the highway, press the brake pedal and double tap the traction control button to put the car in sport mode. Your car will do 60 in first gear. It's been a while since I've had 3.31's but you should be in third or maybe even down to second gear for that start. You'll know by the end of third gear who's car is faster. Race to 130, start in third gear and you wont have to shift at all.
