If I had that large of a budget, I probably wouldn't have had a problem with spending that much. Fortunately, my wife didn't feel like she really wanted anything that pricey as we couldn't have afforded it anyways lol.

She definitely looked at the more expensive stuff, but she kept coming back to the one she has.

I paid closer to $20k.

Don't regret it for a second. It's huge though...I need to get her a big watch to wear on her right wrist though, that way her arms will stretch to be the same length.

well...you need TWO rings...so keep that in mind.
don't over do it and don't use a credit card. I would say use one paycheck or 2 weeks worth of money ...that should be enough

I spent $4500 on a custom one for her.

The ring I wear daily which I received was only $42. I think she actually insured or some one time replacement thing it so it was like $60.

Hers was also appraised at near double but I often think that's scammy too. I loathe the entire wedding industry and process.

To me, it's just a symbol. Cost means nothing. I only asked to have one that would shatter vs crimp around my finger. I still take it off to work on stuff - I never wore jewelery and I find it an inconvenience. It's off when I'm at home.

Buy what you are comfortable with. I've only been married two years and am already at counseling so idk if I'm the great advice guy...although the counselor said I don't need to come back; she needs to work on her. I basically looked past too many red flags. I personally believe they are all freaking nuts.

Mine comes from a somewhat traditional Italian family and has the same for friends. Rings are important to them. I do believe it should be somewhat of a sacrifice on your own end vs being cheap though. You should appreciate the struggle so it not something to just shrug off; much like your vows.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll need it.

The cost of the ring should not exceed 40% of the dowry paid to you to marry her.

LMAO. I have three friends that went to counseling. With you, that makes four dudes that after the first visit get to sit in the lobby or dont go cause they want to talk to the woman. UnF$%#$% real!

Traditionally it's 2 months salary.

I find it funny how many guys here find it to be too much yet they'll spend a months salary or more on a set of wheels and tires.

If its the woman you truly love and want to spend the rest of your life with why not.

BTW I've never been married.

Because hypocrisy?

You don't see many guys expecting their future wives to shell out $5-10k for a "wedding" gift on them to prove their love. Also many of us poor chaps are still caught flipping the bill on the honeymoon as well.

With Tinder these days the value of booty has dramatically dropped. You would think more girls would just be glad to find an uncommitted man that's willing to commit.

100 years ago an engagement ring showed you could provide and gave her a means of survival if you booted her (she can pawn it).

Today, she goes to court and takes half anyways.

Exactly. Unfortunate but true.

I can understand if the woman loves jewelry more than anything and you simply want to spend that much but I think it's sad that people think they need to spend that much money to prove their love. There should not be an obligation.

Luckily my gf doesn't even care about marriage period, we work well together and are happy, don't need to sign government papers to prove it haha

I knew that I never was going to do this again so I went all out. I am about to finish paying the balance off this year.

My wife had it easy, when she bought my band it wasn't more than 200.00 I think. I'm starting to forget prices.
