Looking for a new toy

GM has: Camaro ZL1, CTS-V and Z06
Dodge has: Challenger and Charger HC, Viper
Ford has: ...Roush RS3 and the Ford GT? Line-up seems a little slim. I haven't shopped for a new muscle car in a while, seems like there is a lot of potential but not much available from the Blue Oval these days. GT350/350R don't really whet my appetite. Am I missing something?

Factory stock, there is not much available from Ford in the big HP muscle/sport car category. Hopefully, the GT500 will be released soon. You will probably need to wait about a year after it's release before ADM is a non-issue.

I would hunt down a 2013/14 GT500 or get a Hellcat to hold you over. I'm not a GM fan, but they have some seriously fast cars.

Wow! Phase 1 you get a full 3/36 warranty with Shelby GT500 power... Phase 2, own 99% of the stuff on the road and still get a parts warranty. Not too shabby.

Who the hell cares?

13/14 GT500 are plentiful and growing cheaper by the day.
You also have the 13+ M5, 14+ S6/S7/RS7, 12+ E63.

My two favorite are the GT350 and the RS7.

I really like this option. The new Mustang's look great and ride great, but they just aren't that fast stock. I think a Phase 1 SC package built on a base GT with Performance Package and Recaro seats would only run you in the low $40's. The website says $39,995 for a Phase 2 car on a base GT. I'm not sure what a Phase 1 car cost, but the PP and Recaro's are only about $3,700 in options over a base GT.

The PP will give you the tires, brakes, suspension and rear gearing to really enjoy the SC power. Then after your warranty runs out, you are just a smaller pulley and a re-tune away from the 700+hp.

Lots of crappy reviews on the Roush Mustangs, even stage 3.

If you want to stay with an American built car, why not try out a new Mustang GT with performance pack, then get the dealer to install the Ford Racing supercharger kit? Gives you over 600hp and keeps your factory warranty. You should be in for less than $45k, far less than what you'd spend on a Hellcat or Roush. Then upgrade the rest of the car however you want.

Or if you don't mind GM products, the new ZL1 Camaro seems to be a good contender, but it's pricey and the interior is atrocious.

I've always liked Roush-ed Stangs, but I've seen negative feedback on the current ones as well. Reduces my motivation to buy one.

Speaking of the Euros, I've considered the ones mentioned above as well as the 991 Turbo, Quattroporte GTS, and even the GT-R. But after owning an M5 and considering what my buddy spent on ownership costs of his CLS, I'm not really interested in these models anymore. I prefer the relative simplicity most muscle cars offer.

I'm going to check out the new GT500 thread, if Ford resurrects the 5.8 we may have a winner.

I am in the market for a new car come January 20th and am pretty settled on the Taurus SHO. No where near the 600 hp you are looking for but 365hp and awd in a family sedan seems like a pretty good deal. I was gonna go with the focus but my wife told me no manual so that killed it pretty quick. With a tune the SHO hits around 350whp and I have seen as high as 400 with a few minor bolt ons.

As sunburned said, Id get a premium GT auto and buy the factory supercharger kit. After that a few add on parts from BMR and your running in the 9s. Just ask Kelly of BMR.

Well, i mean i wasnt trying to diss anyone. BMR and others have their boosted S550 autos in the 9s with relative ease.

The 6R80 is the key. Whether its the 5.4 SC or 4.6 SC, or 5.0 Coyote SC they all love making power with boost. Add the 6R80s consistant launching ability under boost and instant shifts... hello 10 and 9 second ETs in the 1/4.

The next GT500 is on the way. My guess is that even if its not THE most powerful from the factory, a few easy mods and a tune will have them making crazy power.

Doesn't the auto have the aluminum differential center section which is more prone to breakage?

Nope. The 6R80 is indestructible. You could literally throw a grenade inside, and not only would it contain the blast, but it would also grind the grenade shrapnel into metal dust and filter it out through the transmission fluid. And it could all be happening while you're laying down a solid 8 in the quarter.

The only thing holding that car back is the conservative Roush tune.
Buy the car, keep the 3 year warranty intact, have either VMP, Lund or Ken Bjonnes do the tuning after some minor, minor upgrades after the warranty is over, and you'll have a very fast, good looking car.
