I have 2 inch chip on my hood that I used oem koan blue L6 touch up paint to fix but the color does not match well. I don't want to pay shop to repaint hood because I'm saving to buy a new hood since stock hood is rusting.I'm looking in to buying a quart of paint. Has anyone bought paint before to use as touch up and what brand. I'm hoping buying paint in a larger size will match better than the oem touch up pen.

That is a very large chip and you will not be able to convincingly touch it up.
Your best bet would be a scratchwizard or dr colorchip kit that includes some putty to fill in the hole and then paint over.
Fixing tiny chips is hard enough, you have your work cut out for you and I don't see it coming out well no matter what paint you use.

Side note: i see you mentioned getting a quart. How are you going to apply it?

I had amazing results with my grabber blue touch up paint that I bought from the dealer! I think I had to apply multiple coats to really make it blend in.

Any pictures of this chip? From your description, it sounds huge.....

Any chip repair kit like the Dr Colorchip, is only gonna work for small chips... trying to use it to cover up something that needs to be repainted is gonna be obvious.

If it bothers you that much, maybe look at some sort of plastidip or vinyl to cover it until you get your new hood.

I bought 2 different brands of pq and blended them to get a color match. Took a few tries but eventually I ended up mixing about 1/3 to 2/3 of a touch up bottle to get it right. I still can't wrap my head around why paint shops need to blend into other panels. Mix it right to match and leave other panels alone!
Good luck!

The only way to get it perfect is to blend. I'm sure if you looked closely you'd be able to see your touch up.

You'll need glasses but sure, it's never perfect. the only way would be shoot the whole panel but it's the wave in light reflection you see not the color difference. Not noticeable unless you know where to look and rock back n forth looking for it. I'm not as particular on the bumper, it takes too many hits and the plastic deforms. Once it's too bad I'll pull it and have it re sprayed.

A 2" chip is huge, and as others have said, you're not going to make it look much better by trying to apply a touch-up patch. I had a fair sized chip (about 1") on my old '14 Mini Cooper's hood. A local body shop tried to touch it up. It did NOT look any better after. I ended up having the hood re-painted and was very pleased with that result. I know you don't plan on using this hood for long, so re-spraying is not an option.

I guess if you don't care that the chipped area will still be visible, filling it in with paint that matches the OEM will probably suffice for you. I assume you're going to buy a quart of paint and use a small brush to apply it to the chip area?

Not sure what type of a chip or scratch you're working with, but check out this dudes channel. This particular video is how to touch up a vehicle that got keyed. Note: Involves a lot of work.

Sorry folks, I was referring to a "normal" stone chip, 1/8" across or less. I agree that a 2" chip is not going to be easily fixed. when I said shoot the whole panel, I was referring to that being the only way to make a 2" chip look good.

I love Larry's videos, he really knows his shit. Wish he'd put out more videos.

Also that semi-eccentric black dude that used to post on here, what was his name, junkman? He knew his shit too
