Well, it is a great buy. Because it was wrecked, lots of new parts. But maybe too good to be true. Thanks so much guys!

It is not a crack. If it was from impact, the tower would be deformed. The wouldn't fix dented a tower and not fix a huge crack.

Also, the crack looks 1/2" wide at the widest point. If the metal cracked, you would be able to see thru it at that angle. Not gray, as if the shock tower was made of thick steel plate.

Also, the color is uniform throughout, if it were a crack that large, there would be shadows.

Looks like someone spilled something

That one caught my eye in January of 2016 on a salvage auction site. I bookmarked the VIN to keep an eye on where it ended up. Here it is for sale:

http://www.eastside-auto.com/2014-Ford-ShelbyGT500/Used-Car/Minneapolis-MN/8259234/Details.aspx

If you Google the VIN and then go to the "images" area of the Google results, you'll see an image of the car sitting in a salvage auction lot, the front end has sustained a hit and the engine is out of the car sitting on a wooden pallet.

Thanks for all the advice, Boys! And I listened. Found another car in better shape. Cost a little more but probably worth it in the end if that car had so many concerns.

WOW! Good info and great photos, Bill!

In addition to everything else that's probably wrong with the car, the snakes on the front fenders are backwards. (Great attention to detail in the repair process...)

Congrats! You chose wisely!

I'd ask the seller for 3-4 very close photos of that crack + inside the engine compartment + under the wheel well with the shields removed. I'd Carfax it just for curiosity. Would I make an offer on it? NOPE.
