Considering a '13 with ~36K miles - any concerns?

Grabber Blue is by far my favorite color on those cars. Red for me is middle of the pack and black - while pretty - is too much work for me to enjoy.

I do like the Grabber Blue. Haven't found any nearby though for sale.

Grabber looks best with black stripes....the white stripes washes the blue out too much IMO.

Well I'm not sure how much an additional $10k is to you but for $50k you can buy one with 5000 miles. By the time you pay taxes at the dealer the difference would be even less.

If it were me, I'd buy private that way you can not only meet the owner but you will save money on taxes vs what the dealer charges.

Oh, yes, I know the problems of having a black car all too well. Thanks for the advice. The red/white one does indeed look gorgeous but I also have always been a sucker for the sinister black paint.

Wouldn't happen to own/have owned a GN and posted on Turbobuick.com perhaps a long time ago?

Yes sir. I actually have had 3 '87 GNs and a GNX (#547).

Plus a bunch of other cars as well, especially Camaros, Chevelles, a 2007 Mustang GT in Grabber Orange, etc. Never had a Shelby though so that's what I'm seriously looking for now.

Nothing is foolproof. With an '08 and my '13 I asked the seller to bring the car to the nearest Ford dealer a 1 hour inspection. Payment can be arranged by you directly with the Service Manager($75-100?) asking they inspect for obvious mechanical or cosmetic flaws. You could offer to flip the owner an additional $50-100 for his troubles if that works. With me both sellers knew my promise was to purchase if all's clear so they accepted no extra cash. In the end for $100-200 you get a conversation with the Service Manager at the end of inspection +a dealership checklist. They can look for everything from leaks, suspension to OBD history of dealership service flash updates or lack of updates. My '13 Ram has had 5-6 OBD flash updates free of charge as general maintenance. The OBD should store updates or history data including footprints of boost or modified power levels even if a car was returned to stock.

My '13 has a bunch of mods. A dealership VIN search would only show
oil changes, general maintenance or air bag recall. I always requested NO OBD flash updates because it would corrupt the custom tune. If you want a bone stock GT500 the issue is really what makes you feel good with the honesty & integrity of the sale. Again...Nothing is foolproof.
But if an expensive multi-day trip is not possible a dealer inspection OR Auto Appraiser visit to sellers home ($500?) was another option I chose on a classic car receiving full narrative and 50+ photos including undercarriage.

Oh...one more though....a dealer test ride is less biased than a new prospective owner with a S--t Eatin grin on his face:)->) !
Good Luck Bud.

Thought so :). I recall the stories about the fictional GNX you'd type up every few weeks or so. I'll probably be selling my Stg II GN one of these days...

Best of luck with your car/search, nice to see you don't have blinders on for one brand and have driven/owned some nice examples all around.

I am partial to GB and white. Keep searching!

Thank you. Yes, I wrote several different stories for TB.com back then. None were about my own specific cars (including the GNX I owned back in '87/'88) but I do enjoy every performance marque out there, and especially the Shelby brand.

How do you like your GN and what year is it? They are incredible cars. I owned my last one for almost 12 years and only sold it when I bought my latest house. It was a solid 11 second car and was a blast to drive.

I have always wanted a '13 or '14 GT500 and think this just may be the right time.

Just got back from vacation, sorry for the late response. Glad to know my memory isn't going on me (yet), those stories were quite popular and in demand!

The GN is an 87, 2nd owner (since '95) with 57k miles. Bought a virgin Stg II off center motor from Ohio George Montgomery about 15 years ago in his shop north of Dayton, OH. Old school tech - LT76 turbo Q trim, Champion aluminum heads/intake, 218/212 roller cam, FAST, crankshaft from Whitey/Moldex (got a blank machined to give 4.5 liter/274 cubes), 83# injectors, etc. Presently converting to vacuum brakes. Needs fillers (which ones don't?) and a paint job/refreshened TBH. Definite classic from it's time. Completely different car, the Shelby is refined yet brutally fast with minor bolt ons. The GN is a beast that makes no apologies for it's age, lack of suspension/cornering, vastly inferior technology yet it will punch you in the back of your head given any opportunity.

Good luck with your search, I'm sure you'll enjoy the Shelby for what it is and will be interested to hear your thoughts/comparisons to your previous vehicles.

Thanks Kel. Your GN sounds like an awesome car and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Turbo Buicks.
