Probably first time posting but lurking for a while. I picked up a 2001 Convertible Cobra in Zink yellow. I'm planning on keeping it NA, and running stock tire size, as I like the oe rims. So far I've installed a drop in K&N and synth oil change, I have a SCT x4 programer not yet installed, and I'm planning on installing Magaflow 2.5"SS cat back exhaust. I'm also looking at sub frame connectors to stiffen the chassis. Car is weekend driver, mainly around town and freeway, (45 miles one way to work) , maybe a few red light runs, but probably will never see the track.

Here is my question, What gear is best, 3.73 or a 4.10?
I'm leaning on the 4.10, but I dont want to keep rowing the gears every 1.5 sec's, but I know the motor likes high rev's.

School me please

There will be a lot of responses, but unless you're talking gear matching for the drag strip, it will just come down to personal preference. You might even change a few times. In my '03 Mach 1 I had the stock 3.55, 4.10, and 4.56 and loved the 4.56. In my current turbo '04 I have 4.10 installed, but 3.55 and 3.90 on the shelf if I decide to change.
I say try the 4.10 and go from there.

4.10's were great when I was NA, definitely the correct choice for me. Now that I installed a Vortech, it's a little too much gear and I wish I had 3.73's.

Back when my car was NA I had 4:30's but after I had those for a while I had to try the 4.56's. It wasn't near as bad as it I thought it would be. I drove the car around a good while. The 99/01 and Mach motors love RPM. The 4:30 and 4:56 gears really made the car come to life. I have some older videos of the car on the drag strip with the 4.56 gears if you want to see how fast you will shift under full throttle.

Same problem. I have 4.30s and they were great when N/A. Now with my Eaton I hit the limiter in 4th before the end of the 1/4 (117 @ 6800).

I'll say this though. They make the car much more fun on the street but I'm not sure that you'll be much if any faster in the 1/4 on the stock tires. If that matters to you.

Sounds like I should try 4.10 gear first.
If I take it to a track it would be scca road course, the drag strip isn't me anymore, I like curves.

Anyways, how hard is it pull the rear IRS axle assembly on the floor of the garage using floor jack and stands? I miss having access to a shop and lifts.

These motors are actually not that high strung with the stock intake manifold. 6300 peak and power falls pretty fast after 6500. I had 3.73's to 4.30's. 4.10's was as far as I liked. And I actually went back down to a 3.73 and the car was the fastest on the street with those. Less shifting.
