Interesting. I've bled mine a couple of times, using the conventional (furthest to closest) sequence. Had no problems and experienced expected performance both times.

I'm interested to see what others have to say...

I've always done the same and had the same results as Norton.

Did you do the outter then the inner on the fronts? I have found info saying to do the inner first then the outter. And found this for 2011 brembo cars which if I'm reading correctly saids to do front inner then outer and back to inner

FWIW, your logic makes more sense than my "blind mouse finding the cheese" rationale... I went inner first simply so I'd be done under the car a few minutes sooner because it was getting dark.

Not going to lie, Ive bled my brakes a few times with a pressure bleeder. While no line had air coming out of it, it one time had a very soft feeling to it. To a bit of driving to firm up.

Professionally, I would have diagnosed it as air in the lines still. But I still have no rational explanaition for why.

When installed my JPC line lock kit, the instructions recommended keeping the ignition on, engine off. Likely opens the valves in the ABS actuator to let air get out. Ive done it key off, and Key on Engine off and had success both ways.
