No, absolutely no mods at all. I'd heard the same thing but 4 or so months ago we mounted a friends set of Cobra R Wheels/tires for a test and they cleared, so I then purchased these wheels and they fit with NO issues at all. In my opinion these wheels/tires are the best option for these cars at the drag strip!

Street tires back on the car, no whine at all. Never had a whine from any of my cars that I've all drag raced with, unsure who your gear installer is but I'd look at them.....

Clutch not holding up, in time it will need to be replaced but you said it was toast immediately. It's not.... That being said, I was sadly limited to 1.8 60 times all night because of the bogging, which sucked.....

I completely know all the issues, I've been drag racing a long time. This car is proving no differently than every other fox or new age Mustang I've tracked, minus the PCM issue.....

I put the tires on at work and left on 25psi. They do NOT hook up on the street at that PSI, that much I can assure you

Love that color in the sun! I'd love it if someone would offer a 27" front DOT radial skinny, I just ordered 28" M&H bias fronts.

Anyway, the stock gear and clutch thing is completely based on mechanical advantage. 4000# car with 2.66 first gear and a 3.31 rear gear puts excessive stress on the clutch compared to 4.10s. Simply not enough mechanical advantage for drag launches.
NJTony and all the fast 3.31 cars hurt the stock clutch, even aftermarket clutches have failed. The clutch was the fuse.
My 4.10s went in around 1000 miles and after drag use and about ten 10 second passes looked almost new. My tuner said it had to be the gears also as his 3.31 car only had a handful of track passes and looked worse.
So, just a friendly warning but it's when not if the stock clutch goes if you continue to drag with 3.31s.
Same goes for gear whine, eventually drag use (with any gear ratio) will cause whine.
In HindNOS case, the bias ply tire is helping but I can almost bet if puts on street or stock radials there will be whine on the highway.

Depending on the height of the wheel/tire combo he's using , the clutch may last a bit longer than using the stock rims with drag radials. My second rxt held up way better with 3.73's but the whine almost made it not worth getting gears

Thanks for the info.
Like Zyborg the early reports were that 17" Darkstars didn't fit and Racestar wasn't sure so many like myself went 18".
I also have drag experience and you're doing it right now that more parts available, great to see.
The bias ply is the right choice and we just recently have 17/18" choices. I'm selling my 18" DRs for the same tire you're using. Do you think the 9.5" works well? I have 18x10.5 Darkstars and wanted to change to 17x10.5" and same 28" ET Street Rs.
On the clutch and gears, as Tony said the bias ply are helping you.
I had my stock gears whine launching at track on stock tires!
I've had 2 other sets whine after DR launches. One set up by Ford and second by Team Z, so a VERY good chassis shop.
Also, the clutch protection maybe helping now too. Not helping 60' but saving parts. Once your tune removes clutch protection in the tune you will be VERY happy but your parts may not.
Will be good to have another drag guy on this forum and I assume you can tell the 3.31s aren't the best choice.
Good luck.

It's odd to wrap up the 1/4, that high in MPH in 3rd gear, that's for sure!

I also will be ordering an MGW shifter right away

Bimini is your 13 a track pack you had mentioned to use a girdle for the rear end, which girdle did you use and were you able to keep you oil cooler system all intact I'm trying to get a girdle for my 13 but I can't seem to find something that had oil cooler ports .

I agree and I only had it to the track once with 3.31s. Had to make it run 11s completely stock. Seriously got gear whine with one trip. Dealer warrantied but I gave them new 4.10s to replace.
I think you'll like the MGW. I always ran Pro 5.0s, but the MGW in my '93 is great and the quality is second to none.
I went to a Magnum XL to get an SFI bell and direct mount shifter while the motor was forged.
Any advise with the 28x11.5x17s?
What burn out and psi did they like?

I started with 19psi, they spun to the tune of am 11.9 run. Immediately dropped them to 16psi and found that perfect. 3 second burnout and then I release the brake and let it start bighting as I approach the line, LOVED IT!
I'm all my Fox bodies, the pro5.0 is and was hands down the best shifter. In the GT500's the pro50 is not good, imo. We installed one in a customers car, he was unhappy, noise and vibrations. Swapped to the MGW and he was in love. I put one into my 2012 GT500 and it was perfect! I had the grind when I bought it, I had Ford replace the synchro n such under warranty, picked it up and immediately made one huge 1-2 shift perfectly. With the trans solid, I installed the MGW and "never" had an issue again.
Stupidly I didn't keep my stock shifter from the 12, so I left the MGW installed, oh well.
