I posted this thread in the wheels/tires/brakes section but that area hardly gets any views it seems like. Posting here. Please help!

So. Have had my drivers side rear brake squeaking for a couple years intermittently and recently decided to figure out what's wrong. Started developing a TON of brake dust only on that wheel, more than two front wheels. originally thought it was my parking brake sticking, so swapped that cable out and thought it was driving better. Few days later squeaking came back. Bought two new calipers from ford, not refurbs, and got better for a week. Drove better, brakes better, felt so different and just... right. Week later, squeaking is back. After new calipers. I have no idea WTF is wrong. Squeaking occurs when turning right, be it at a light or stop sign, or if a highway or road has a veering right turn. Sometimes a light right turn will do it. Sometimes it squeaks when driving straight. Not always. The car actually brakes a little on that wheel when making the right turns. I can park on an incline, turn wheel all the way right and the car will slow down and stop. If I turn it left all the way it will roll fine. So that brake is braking when turning hard right or turning right at all slightly. Harder the turn, the more it brakes.

Anyone have an idea? Trying to do this myself so I don't have to bring it in. Car is my DD. Thanks!!!

From personal experience, The first couple things to check are ensure the pads are seated in the slots and clean and re-grease the slide pins.

If that's not it, with the car on jack stands, put the car in gear and make sure the axle isn't bent.

If that doesn't work, host up a video of that side so we can see what it looks like.

P,S: Did you install new pads with the new calipers?

Ok so I put new calipers on a few weeks ago. Prob isn't that. Could be the axle tho and I'm worried it is. But why when turning right? That's what I don't understand. And the car drove great for a little bit after I did them. Now it feels awful.

Didja do a full grease job on every contact point when installing the new calipers? 9 times out of 10, brake squeaks are a lubrication issue.

Clearly the brake is dragging on that side. If that rotor is badly warped, that could cause drag and shitty pedal feel.

The other advice is sound here as well.

I put new pads and rotors on in mid June when I swapped the parking brake cable on that side. It felt better for a few days but started hearing squeaking every now and then and all of a sudden a lot. After I changed pads and rotors made a trip to cape cod from md. Made two more trips up there and a trip to Delaware. Basically put a good 3-4,000 miles in the amount of time I swapped calipers and kept original equipment. So pass and rotors I kept. The car drove so different after, like tracked so straight and felt totally different. I must have been fighting off the old caliper being slightly stuck. Well it's back, feels like it's sticking when going over warped roads and changing lanes on highway...

I stopped on a slight incline and cranked steering wheel all the way to the right, took off brakes to roll down and it stopped. Did it the other way, wheel all the way to left and it rolled more!!! Like way more. Didn't stop. Wtf???

This morning driving straight it was squeaking/making noise. Like what else could it be?

I do have the gt500 rear rotor adapters, not the actual oem things that you have to take the axle out to install. Could there be an issue there?

Basically I'm dumbfounded. How could new calipers do this?

It feels like I can't take off from a stop smoothly because of that caliper maybe being somewhat rubbing or engaged on the brake a little?

Well, last thing you touched rule. Yank the pb cables off both sides and see if this changes the performance.

That wasn't the last thing I touched, it was installing the new calipers. I'm talking not refurbished, my dealer ordered them straight from ford.

Basically I'm wondering what could be a possible cause for engaging that one brake during right turns? Even driving straight?

Seems like the most random things happen to my car that nobody else experiences.

Your not alone on this issue. My driver rear has squeaked from about 2,000 miles and I'm now at about 12,000. When it starts to chirp i just remove the pads clean the slides and relube and reinstall pads. Take about 15 minutes.
I did sand the locators on the edges of the pads as they were not shaved properly so they would slide better
Hope this helps

Try removing the adapter and putting back on the smaller rotor.

Also, make sure brake lines aren't bent/kinked.

No more squeaks and car drives great. Just took her up to cape cod again and still silent!! Thanks for the help everyone! Great community here
