I agree, but something isn't right that's for sure. If it's a stock bypass valve that thing doesn't hold shit for CFM.. So if it's opening that's why it's not making power. It also sounds like he's not 100% sure on what type of cooling he has.. What filter is he running on the power pipe too? That could be restricting as well. There are so many variables here we need to know the entire setup so we can figure out what could be the issue.

Yea or that too. If the compression is low then that's a problem obviously and would explain the low power as well.

Sounds like a good set up 98. Seems there's a reason why tho, if all things equal other than cams. He lost 120 hp and freshened it all up, is be upset too, especially if I paid someone to build it.

Thanks.....I like the set up too. Something's up though...the two new variables are the cams and ported heads. I spent a boatload to get the heads done. With 460 rwhp, it appears to be a waste. I have the dyno sheets (attached) and supporting specs to prove that this set up (with stock cams) put down 568rwhp (on 12 psi - 3.25" pulley) in 2005. It was a Sean Hiland build.

We're the cams degreed? Did you tell fox lake the 01 cams have less duration than the 96-98s.

I highly recommend a compression test.

I would assume he would know this......will find out later today.

I specifically questioned the tuner about compression. He flat out said I did not lose a cylinder. Now, compression could be low in one or more, yes, but wouldn't the motor be misfiring or showing other symptoms ? It's actually running pretty well. No hesitation, misfires, nothing.

I have the original intercooler from the 05 build and MAF. I wanted to replace both and add a Mafia. However, the tuner said the MAF is not pegging, but the motor is running hotter than his liking.

It's looking more like I should just swap the damn cams and upgrade to cooling MAF etc...more $$$.

Seriously bud, listen to na svt and do a compression test first. It's cheap and easy and will tell you a lot. Don't just start throwing money at parts before you know what is going on...

Car seems down on power to me. For reference, my 96 made 550rwhp at 15 pounds with a T-Trim on 91 Octane. Car has B heads with stock cams and 9:1 compression. On the first pull, the car actually made 590rwhp at 18psi.

Thanks.....after doing more research, it seems this setup should be putting down rwhp in the high 400's. The cams are holding it back a bit, but not that much. I'm comparing my dyno results to one from 2005....although the spec sheets at the time indicate that we're comparing apples-to-apples, now I'm not so sure.

The compression is fine...the motor is strong. My immediate plan now is to convert to E85 in the spring and drop the blower pulley down to A 2.95" 8 rib along with an 8.0" lower.....I'm hoping this will push 17-18psi and 550+ rwhp, running safe and cooler.

The long term plan is to replace the vortech with a Hellion twin turbo. lol
