I have both a Kenmore High Efficiency washer and a Kenmore dryer.
Both have lasted a long time, with a good amount of use on each weekly. The washer did have to have some service on it a couple of times though. (Good thing for extended warranty. lol)

Skip all the technology. Get a basic top loading washer or what ever fits. I spent 1200 on the latest and greatest. Performed some maintenance on my dryer, and thats when i observed its just a cylinder and a heating element. So why pay extra for a electronic display. Really, next time i need to buy iam getting the basic stuff.

Top load with an agitator that actually fills with water.
Doesn't matter what brand, they're all junk compared to how they were made decades ago when they would last for 30 years. Now you would do great if you get 10 years out of them.

Have you thought about just fixing the dryer? I'd say there's a good chance either a heating element is out or the dryer duct is clogged. If it's an element they're cheap and easy to fix... It it's the duct a new dryer won't fix that.

I've had GE Profile top loader washer and front load dryer for 11 years now with no problems. I don't have kids though so they get used like twice a week.

I bought a Maytag set recently for the 10 year motor warranty. They do ok. We dislike how little water the washer uses on any setting other than the deep water wash which just fills the whole drum.

LG because the NSA can listen to it bouncing around at 2 am when my wife decides to start laundry. But seriously, it has a service microphone that communicates with your phone for the diagnostic center to decide what is wrong.

I would avoid a front load washer. If you don't care for it properly then it makes the clothes it washes smell like shit.
Remove the washing powder/liquid tray. It comes all the way out.

Make sure to have some bleach and a flexible scrub brush. You may freak out at all the mold. It could be the reason your kids seem to have allergies too!

Speed Queen.
Talked to a guy that suggested take a look around at what commercial local laundries use.
My Speed Queen washer is the only one that has an adjustment on the back that allows you to override the governments mandate on how much water you can use to wash clothes. It makes a difference.
Our washer is 5 years old. No music, no fancy anything. It just washes clothes quickly and thoroughly. A load of laundry (wash )takes 20 to 25 minutes.
Speed Queen Dryer is only a year old. Five year warranty on the electronics and control panel through our local Speed Queen sales. They said they get much warranty work so they work on volume in sales.
Just my opinion though...

And on the bright side, if they run out of rocks they could use your head.

Anyone who buys a dryer should make it a priority to have that wrinkle away and refresh settings.
