So other than looking down in the cylinder to find what you did, did it make any noises or have any issues running? Can't believe the luck brother.

Nope no issues at all running. Made 830rwhp and purred lol. But didn’t want to take a chance of their being possible more damage. Which luckily there wasn’t. Except the heads. I’m glad we pulled it no what if’s when I add more boost. At 18-20psi it’ll be well into the 900s and I don’t want to be wondering lol

Don't blame you there. If it was a build with a lot less expectations, most would of probably sent it as isand took their chances lol

Saw you inquire on an auto for sell ad here. You going to make the switch soon? It would be a whole different car if so!

It’s been on my mind to maybe make the switch. But I need to see how it is with the manual. I enjoy shifting a lot. And I’ve never driven a mvb car. So I need to do that before I ultimately decide lol

So sorry to hear about this issues.

I’ve been looking forward to this build to be done so I could find your impressions between a high boost Al 4.6, and your boosted Iron 5.3.

Oh I can tell you already.. I've driven the car on this setup very little but I still drove it.

So my old setup wasn't a 5.3, it was a 5.0 none stroker setup. But 8.5 compression with 4.10s.. It was peppy, and fun but the weight of the block was very much there. And the low compression even with 4.10's compared to my high compression 3.73 setup is a lot different..

My new setup is very very violent lol. I can get into it about 1/4 throttle rolling into it and the front end starts to lift.. But it's very hard to do a side by side comparison. My car is hundreds of pounds lighter.. I removed a ton of shit. Stereo, A/C, ABS, Iron block, etc etc. My car is sub 3300lbs fwiw..

If I were you, stick with a high compression AL block and call it good.

Also another factor to consider.. My last setup made 615/550 on 17psi lol. I'm making 830/670 on 14psi. So there is a big different.. Different blower too.. My old setup was a T-trim, and I'm running a JT-trim..

But check this out.. There is a car built by AED.. 03/04 Cobra with a 2.9 Crusher. Only difference is this guy has a stroker engine, 1-7/8" primary heads to my 1-3/4", and the 2.9 Crusher.. On 14psi he made 831/655..

So someone needs to explain to me how I made more tq and power with a small blower and less displacement lol..

I preach this quite often.. Centrifugal cars are nasty when done right.. They tend to make more power (useable) and are faster.. They use less power to turn the blower and cooler IAT's..

Interesting info. My 5.3 has 10.5:1 compression and with 4.56’s it is VERY torquey. I can start off in 2nd gear, blip 1/4 throttle and be at the speed limit on the street. I do dislike the weight as much as I try to ignore it (maybe if I started with an iron block I wouldn’t care), and I find myself contemplating a turbo coyote swap. Too bad Ford’s crate motors are $18k.

What heads are you running with this setup? Have you had them flow benched? What’s your compression?

Heads are foxlake stg3. Yes flow benched and around 10:1
What did they flow? I have ported FR’s from Roush, and they flowed 305cfm at .450”

Also another thing to consider is you were running that air-to-water Intercooler on your old setup, correct? Years ago it was a general consensus that those things hurt flow above 10psi on a stock motor. On a big bore motor you’d have to assume it would start becoming a restriction at even less pressure.

Yes they flow 313cfm at .450 and these cams are bigger than that..

Yea I was running the air to water and I know it wasn't great for flow.. It was likely holding me back quite a bit I would say.. This cooler as less than 1psi drop at like 25psi.. We measured on the other car that has one..

Cams are degree'd and done as of today.. Shouldn't be to much longer. The cams were placed in a bit differently to shift the power band right more.. I think she's going to make more steam than the last time it was dyno'd

awesome build man...what standalone works with the 96-98 cobras since we have different spark plug setups.

I'm not running anything from the 96-98 anymore.. But I'm not sure either way. Most of the aftermarket ECU's come with a new coil driver setup as it is..
