I will be driving a good bit more soon for a new job and would love to save the money on gas and wear and tear on my current vehicle.

I'm looking for something around 30mpg highway.

I don't know if there are any fun vehicles at this price point and mpg.

Anything like a old 5 or 6 speed standard civic or maybe an older wrx.

Not picky on brands just most reliable, good mpg, 3Rd most import is comfortable. Nice flat seat with little to no bolstering if possible. Seat is important but if all other are good I can overlook the comfort some.

Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated

A honda civic, if it has to be that mileage.

I like older jeep cherokees and grand cherokees if it doesn't have to be that mileage.

I bought a 2007 Ford Focus about two years ago for the same reason. I get on average 32 mpg. Warm time of the year is 34 plus. It’s a 5 speed base version. Wish it had cruise and tilt wheel but other than that it’s a great car. My uncle has one with 300,000 and my dad had the same car premium with 150,000 going strong. They are cheap too. Obviously not a good looking car though. Mines old man gold.

GM G platform.
Cheap to own, cheap to maintain, and very durable/reliable. They’re actually targeted by the mail service for those very reasons. I have a customer of mine with one with going on 215k miles on it with 125k put on in about around 3 years. His maintenance has been very little and he’s not easy on that car.
I’ve actually got my Bonneville SSEI (on the G platform) for sale for 2 grand. Does good on gas as long as you don’t have your foot in it (it’s supercharged).
Stay away from Europe.

I'd have to say any Chevy cavalier. Those things have rust everywhere and are ugly as shit but I've had like 4 of those at this point. First one (paid 800 at 165k miles) I stopped changing the oil at 273k until the spark plugs shot out of the cylinder head hahaha second one the parking authority took it (paid 600 at 119k miles), third one had water damage from a bad piece of weather stripping and I scrapped it, 4th one I drove it until the wheels fell off...literally. spent about 2500 total on those 4 lol

They kept paying for themselves in my book.

Bought for $3,200, hit a deer a year later, got $3,600.

Bought for $3,000, 6 car pile up 2 years later, got $3,500ish.

Bought for $4,700, drove 6 years and 90K miles, stolen, got about $3,500 I think.

Ive got a bud with an old Toyota Camry wagon that's carbureted, it won't die. During hurricane Harvey it was under water for five days.
Drained tank, all fluids, gassed up and some starting fluid and the thing runs. The dash still works and the factory clock still works.
Tanks for sure.

2008-2011 ford focus. They are the forgotten focus between the 12 up body style and 07 down body. Got mine for $3000. Has a 5 speed, blutooth, sirius and had 71,000 miles on it. Everything is cheap for them and I get great gas mileage. I needed mine for city parking its such a slow yet reliable car.

Some of the 2000 era VWs like the jetta, golf, and beetle. I have seen many at 300k mark or near it. So of you find a 100k car you can expect a lot of life out of it.

Consider diesels of that era too. They were made with gas mileage in mind as gas prices were thought to force us into economic submission. Check the diesel brand for reliability.

Turbo-brick Volvos. Damn things are like the Nokia phones of cars.

If I was on a game show and was handed $2000 and told "buy a car and make it from coast to coast in 3 days on only $2k," I'd buy an older 240, set aside gas and food money, and have $1000 left at the end.

Honda or Toyota or GM cars with the 3400/3800 v6.

Don't buy a Nissan with a CVT. Engines are solid though.
