Lots of good points above. Buying a modded car (GT500 or other) is a winning proposition on the financial side (if you know you're going to mod anyway) especially if you can get info on the history of the vehicle & develop a good relationship with the seller.

Here is a practical consideration...you might have an insurance premium price advantage with a GT500. In my comparison shopping I'm saving a lot of money buying a collector car policy vs a regular auto policy. I don't know if a company like Grundy or Haggerty will insure a regular late model GT as a collector car...maybe so... Just something to consider.

That said...I have seen some killer deals on some clean, blown late model coyotes with full suspension, built rears, etc. It seems like people can't give them away....lots of beef for about 10k less than a GT500. I admit that I was tempted.
Never thought about collectibles insurance. I recently quoted my insurance for replacing the cobra with a gt500. It wasn't a heart stopper but wasn't what I was hoping for. We are talking about a much more expensive car they would be covering though.

What year GT are you wanting?

Anyone can buy a GT and they are everywhere......

I rarely see a GT500 around town.

If your not wanting to mod it much then get a GT500. At least you will start with a supercharger. Pulley and tune and you will reach your goals way cheaper then modding a GT.

Good luck
I didn't have a particular year in mind just a coyote motor. I haven't looked at the different years and options foe the GT since I was leaning heavily towards a GT500.

Listening to Alex's video on the different years of Gt500 there's nothing wrong with the 2010 but to avoid if possible. I called 2 performance shops and they also recommended leaving it as a last choice due to the one year model.

Yes, the 10 is unique as far as the combination, but it's not really that different... Same engine as 07-09 and same body as 11/12.

Wow, I can't really find a reason to not buy one but I skipped the coyote completely coming from a 03 Cobra, waited 6+ years and now in a 12. I have zero regrets. Love everything about it but I'm still in honeymoon only having it since late September.

And can agree with collector insurance. In my case, I went with Grundy for $581 a year and better coverage for a few hundred less than my regular car policy. So worth getting quotes on both cars.

This...After owning a '10 for a little over a year and researching all kinds of mods for it the differences are negligible. Some (but not all) brands of axle back exhaust may or maynot be unique to the '10. Most exhaust parts from 07-09 will work, and all intakes for 10-12 are the same. Blowers, pullies, cams, fuel system upgrades are the same for 07-12 from what I've seen. Only things I really wish I had from 11+ is the OEM wideband for the exhaust.

^^^I do not understand that^^^

If the 2010 had something completely unique from the years before or after, like parts did not interchange, odd engine, etc. then yes, I would say avoid, but that is not the case, the 2010 has some of the previous and some of the year after and all of it is usable across the 2007-2014 GT500. The same mods that can be installed on a 2007-2009 or some parts from a 2011/12 work on a 2010....The only thing I can think of that "may" be unique, is the interior? If that is the case, that is not even anything to worry about, If you plan on keeping the car, grab some spare unique interior parts as you find them, seat covers, door panels etc.

Yes the 2010 is unique, but not in a bad way, it is a time when change was happening to the GT500 and it was caught between old and new, both of which seem to be desirable.

I'm taking him purely at his word from the video, I've done no research. What he is stating just happens to match two other shops opinions. Neither of which were trying to sell me a car or service just their opinions. From what I understand the one off mix of features made it less desirable. From what I'm seeing in the video 07-12 all had the 5.4 but 07-08 were iron head and iron block, 11-12 were aluminum head aluminum block, and 2010 was iron head aluminum block.

07-10 were aluminum heads, iron block. 11+ were all aluminum. 11+ also had electric power steering.

If youre genuinely serious about leaving it stock, save for exhaust and maybe an intake id include the 2010 in your search. Probably a little cheaper than 11+ as well

Good point, I was just about to touch on this. Only drawback I have come across so far is exhaust options seem to be limited. I think it's due to the hanger location and body style change.

I really want quad tip exhaust and a deep tone on my car. One day when i have some cash saved to change up the exhaust, I am going to see what it takes to make 13/14 setup work.

Wouldnt be all the hard really. Depending on your current exhaust, you could go with a lethal off road x or h for 11-14. You would need the OTA pipes from ford and the quad tips of your choice. Fitment at the bumper is entirely up to you lol

Exactly why its possible to get a great deal on the 2010 if that's what your looking for. And like pointed out above, there's really no reason to avoid it.

FWIW I bought mine out of state and drove it back 425 miles back home. It averaged 21.3 mpg on the Performance Pack's 3:73 gears. The 2010 followed me back and averaged in the upper 23 mpg's on the stock 3:55's. I don't remember his exact mpg number. Both cars stock.

All round driving with the pulley and tune I'm averaging 18.3 mpg. The 2010 I believe is averaging around 20 mpg. I like hearing my supercharger whine pretty often.

I would have went with a 13-14 but they are pretty far out of my price range.

Im getting 20 mpg highway on my 4.10s. My 2011 has a 6th gear overdrive ratio of .5 so it helps

So a 2010 is a 07-09 drive terrain on a 11+ body. Does that mean it's 6th gear is .63 or .5? Not having a .5 6th might be something to consider.

............1st..2nd..3rd..4th..5th..6th
07/09 - 2.97 1.78 1.30 1.00 0.80 0.63
11/12 - 2.97 1.78 1.30 1.00 0.74 0.50
13/14 - 2.66 1.82 1.30 1.00 0.77 0.50

If you all are getting that great of mpg then your really not driving the car. I didn’t buy a GT500 to average 18-20+ mpg. I’m sure you do beat the hell out of it but cmon man! We’re talking about mpg......
