Finally received the 2.9 Gen 3 I ordered before Christmas and had installed/tuned this past week at Coastal Dyno in Tampa, FL. Combo is as follows:

2013 GT500 w 17k
Whipple 2.9 Gen 3 (3.0” UP/10% IW Lower)
Stainless Works 1 7/8” LTs
Off-Road H-Pipe
Factory Cat-Back
JLT 155mm CAÍ
VMP Twinjet 67mm TB
ID1050X Injectors
170 Thermostat / Iridium Plugs
Billet OPGs/Billet Crank Gear
93 Octane Pump Gas Tune

All Dyno results are on loaded Mustang Dyno so “conservatively” multiply by 1.08 for equivalent Dynojet numbers. I’m going to pick a cool morning and make a couple Dynojet runs soon just to validate. The Mustang Dyno pulls were at 85 degrees here in FL afternoon heat so factor that in as well.

Before run w Whipple 2.9 Gen 2 / SW Hi-Flo Cats: 677rwhp / 668rwtq X 1.08 = 731rwhp / 721rwtq

After run w Whipple 2.9 Gen 3 / Cat Elims:
724rwhp / 696rwtq X 1.08 = 782rwhp / 751rwtq

Gen 3 made about .75psi more so close to 17psi now at peak. Entire area under the curve was raised and the car completely overpowers the 305/35/20” Nitto DRs at this point even rolling into the throttle in 2nd gear w 3.31 gears. Roughly 47rwhp / 28rwtq gained at peak. Most likely the limiting factor now is the VMP Twin 67mm TB which I’ve retained for driveability since I daily drive the car (and driveability remains like stock) and of course 93 octane fuel. Car feels great though and I’m very pleased with the upgrade. Next upgrade may be VMP Twinjet 72mm if they ever perfect/release it for sale again and BAP/E85 Tune but I’m clearly already near limits of stock motor.

Thoughts?

Nice. So same exact pulley setup as the Gen 2?

We can probably say a few hp are from the cat delete. If it is the same pulley setup and you actually increased boost while deleting the cats, thats awesome.

Either way, nice gains.

Yes exact same pulley setup on both. Only change was Gen 3 Whipple and swapping the SW Hi-Flow cats for their Cat Elim pipes. Now I have both so can swap in/out as needed though we don’t have emissions testing here in FL so....

It is a sharp looking blower.

I see how the inlet bolts on on the pass side. I don’t see a bolt/flange at say 1 o clock drivers side.

Very nice!
Do we also have 3.4 and 4.0 options with the Gen 3 rotors?
I've been thinking of some options other than TVS :)

Nice gains! I am considering stepping up to a Gen 3 as well, just wanting to see more actual results like yours to rationalize the cost and effort required to replace my Gen 2 which continues to perform well for my intended use. The revised blower case looks sharp! Thanks for posting.

You're making some great power, I love the look of the Gen 3 whipples

Thanks. I’ve always been partial to the looks of the Whipple blowers and the Gen 3 continues that. I still find it amazing that the car can have nearly 800rwhp and drive absolutely just like it is stock. I can creep in stop n go traffic at < 1000rpms if needed no issue. The power level at this point is too much to practically use on the street w my 305/35/20” Nitto DRs. Time to either widen the rear wheels or swap to something 10.5” or wider to fit more rubber under this beast.

It’s not an inexpensive swap but if your at the point where that last 40rwhp or so is just killing you it’s an efficient gain given essentially same boost level and increased power across the curve. It’s all in the blower design increased efficiency. I’d do it again. The 2.9L Gen 2 is really best for 2007 - 2012 5.4 equipped GT500’s IMHO. The Gen 3 version can now be considered as a legit upgrade for the 2013/2014’s where retaining the stock hood is desired. My tuner believes it will support 1000rwhp on a higher compression/cammed/built 5.8L so likely the last blower I’ll ever buy for this car.

Great looking Blower and HP. With an Upper and Lower, do you have a Heat Exchanger with Fans installed?? Fits under the stock hood too, impressive..

Any info. on a Gen 3 3.4? I did not see anything on the Whipple website. Would be great if it would fit under the stock hood with lowering mounts/lowering k member. I really would like to keep the factory hood. I would like to know before purchasing the 2.65 Gen 3 VMP. To the OP great results!

Those are some really nice gains. These Gen3 Whipples are definitely looking appealing....it's hard to make a decision with the Gen3 TVS right around the corner. It's nice to have a lot of good options these days.
