Hi guys,

So I searched around and did not find a specific thread for this, but....

I have my 08 previously V6 Mustang and swapped in an 07 GT500 engine with 19k miles. Not looking to get more power outof it right away as it is a scary amount of power going from my 210 hp V6. However, this summer, I may need to get it to the point of gapping a Hellcat Charger. :)

MY QUESTION: I have this 07 GT500, JLT cold air, Bama 93 tune, 3.73 gears, stock catted H pipe for exhaust and nothing past that, tires at the moment are some well worn Nitto NT555G2 285 wides. Estimated hp is approx. 570 crank, 500 wheels based on American Muscle doing a before and after dyno with the same intake and 93 tune. What mods (cost is a big factor) do you guys think I would need to walk this Hellcat Charger? My next set of tires will most likely be some Toyo R888 305 wides.

The story behind it is a guy in my local car group was talking a lot of shit about other people's ride and get this, not me, but MY FRIEND called this guy out not to race my friend but to race ME saying my "V6" mustang could gap his hellcat. Obviously this guy with his extremely large ego is eager to race me haha.

Thanks,
Jacob

In order for you to walk a Hellcat Charger with a 07 GT500, you are going to need a TVS or bigger with supporting fuel mods, exhaust, custom tune, upgraded clutch, upgraded suspension, wider wheels with drag radials.

Remember all Hellcat Charger's are A8's and with a good sticky rear tire are a formidable challenge.

Driver Mod is paramount.

Good Luck

TVS, Throttle body, slicks, race gas, tune will get you there power wise. But the A8 in the charger will beat most average drivers in a manual. Best thing you have going is being quite a bit lighter than the charger.

As the others have mentioned, you're going to need a lot of mods (bigger blower, suspension, tires, better tune, etc) to take out an A8 Hellcat. Be ready to open your wallet if you plan on having all that done by this summer.

I am not so negative. Most Hellcats I have run at the track were only good for low 11s. Now there are of course more heavily modified Hellcats running better, but not too many(there was that 9.60 Hellcat). It is not so hard to get a GT500 into high 10s as people say above. Driver mod and sticky tires are a must.

Well when i first bought my gt500 i wanted to be faster than a hellcat. I have a buddy with a challenger and it took a few mods but i was able to pull on him with a relatively simple setup. Ported eaton blower at 16psi. Headers with no cats 3" all the way back. Vmp 67 throttle body jlt 127 afco heat exchanger vmp tune and 3.73s. Lower control arms and drag radials. Not sure about the gap but atleast make him sweat a little....

This guy is on street tires, no wider than 295. At the track, I have seen these things run high 11s because they cannot hook. That was going to be the weakness he has that I want to make my strength for sure.

Start shopping for a used TVS or Gen II, there should be a bunch available real soon, along with some 56lb injectors, a tune, some drag radials or DOT slicks and a tune, should be a piece o cake.

I beat them all the time in my 650whp tvs coyote so I imagine a simple tvs setup and some bolt ons would do the trick as long as you have good tires

Even at a legit track you'll definitely need to focus on mechanical grip. Stock rear lower control arms are garbage, especially base Mustang stuff.

To be honest, i wouldn't recommend polyurethane control arms. Ive blown out 2 sets of poly LCA bushings and an UCA poly bushing. The lowers shifting to second, and the upper blew during a launch.

Youll want to head straight to rod end control arms. They are noisy, and can rattle over time. But they are the only consistent arm construction for drag racing. Especially on dig launches at a prepped track.

Rear rod end upper control arm with mount, rod end rear lower control arms and LCA relocation brackets, adjustable panhard rod and 1 peice drive shaft should be on your short list of next mods.

I would HIGHLY recommend upgrading that JLT to a PMAS 120MM, especially if your upgrading to a TVS.

Ditch the Bama tune, complete garbage. Lund Racing, VMP or JDM Engineering are your top choices for a tune.

Make sure the fuel system is up to snuff. If you swapped over the GT500 fuel system, youll only need a Pump Booster. If its a boosted V6 pump, get that upgraded to a GT500 system STAT.

Don't waste time with the Toyo. They are good, but depending on your tire size youll want a Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S radial if youre roll racing/street stuff. Youll spin less on the Toyos, but youll spin none the less.

If this set up is for dedicated dragstrip use, you want bias plys. Ive bent 3 axles trying to dig race off radials. After $500 needlessly wasted because of the wrong tire choice, learn from my fail.

1. Any tvs setup with hpipe on the cheap. Need basic fuel upgrade.

2. Don't make the same mistake we all do and over power the tires!
rec nt05r.

so many gt500s look like dogs out of the gate for lack of traction.
maximize what you already have!
