Remote Oil Filter Mount Options

I'm going to be ordering a MM K-member in the next 30 days or so and I'm going to need to relocate the oil filter. I could just go ahead and order the MM kit, I'm sure its nice and works well. The thing I don't like about it is you have to run the larger FL-1A filter.

The block adapter is a Canton piece so that is easy to get but I've been searching for an actual oil filter mount and cant find any that has the 22x1.5mm thread that the FL-820s uses. Has anyone done their own custom relocation or ran across this before? Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

The larger FL-1A is a good thing for two reasons, more filtering surface area and slightly larger oil capacity. It's a tried and true filter. If space is an issue, the FL-400s will interchange with it.

The main reason I don't want the FL1A is because of space and the fact that I don't need the extra oil capacity. I don't road race the car so its not sustained at high rpm. Id prefer to not have oil changes become 7+ quarts or whatever it would end up being.

If i could find a way to run the stock FL820s id only be increasing the capacity of the added lines so maybe 6.5 quarts total.

Then what would seem to be a small factor to some is the added weight. I've heard that the K member alone is only 7lb lighter than stock (I already have the A-arms & coilovers) so the addition of the relocation parts, added filter weight and added oil weight probably offsets the weight benefit of the K member.

I will look into the specs of the FL400s

Delete the oil cooler and run a GT water neck. Problem solved. No expensive relocation, and you can run the filter you want.

I would just run the GT water neck like Tabres suggests. The cobra oil cooler is more there to speed up the time it take for the oil to heat up to help with emissions. So more of an oil heater than cooler, so I wouldn't expect there to be any issues ditching it.

I havent done anything yet. Ive been working on getting things going with getting the k-member in, spindles are at the machine shop getting the tie rod hole opened for the bumpsteer kit.

I have been doing lots of homework on all my possible options, which there are a bazillion to consider.

After looking at the cost of piecing a setup together with cost efficient but still quality fittings, adapters, & mount it looks like it is going to be hard to put it together for less than MM's kit.

I am still stubborn and want to keep the oil cooler and still want to use the FL820S filter so this week when I go to pick up my spindles I'm going to see about getting a quote for a custom pipe machined that will replace the screw in stud that comes with the MM mount. ~Half will be 3/4-16 thread to go into the mount and the half that extents out of the mount will need to be m22-1.5 thread to adapt for the 820 filter. The only other issue i need to look into is to see if the sealing surface is similar enough to be able to use the 820 filter on a mount designed for the FL1A.

If the price is outrageous im not sure what I will do. I have about 6 weeks before it warms up here and people start getting out so I still have some time to tinker with things. Ill update as I learn more.

Yea I feel ya on the oil cooler. I recommend if you keep the oil cooler rebuild it with new gaskets and orings they are notorious for going out. I can point you in the right direction for the rebuild kit.

Ok guys. I ended up going the expensive route so that I could continue to use the stock oil filter. The engine adapter and the oil filter mount are from Canton. Got those and all the AN fittings and hose from Summit. It was right at $300 for all of it and I'm about half way done getting it put together.

this is NOT true. i've spoken to a ford tech who worked on the development of the mod motor and he informed me they did not just throw this oil cooler on there just to add to the cost.

fwiw.

I didn't say they threw it on to add cost, I said it was part of the emissions strategy to heat the oil of quicker. There certainly is cooling being done once the oil temperature stabilizes but without the cooler there the oil temperature isn't going to rise to the point where you will see any issues.
