I don't know why FORD pushes the eco-boosts so much. They actually aren't that efficient for some reason.

They make better torque/power and the fuel mileage is equal to or greater than. 99% of people do not know how to stay out of boost for city driving. We have a few EB vehicles and they are definitely better, that's just not a popular opinion on a car forum who love a classic v8 (understandable)

example: my GF and my buddy both DD bone stock focus ST's and my buddy get's horrible mileage compared to my GF who drives it according to the dummy gear recommendation on the dash. My buddy thinks his EB sucks on gas but in reality it's all him.

So you're saying Ford builds cars that only 1% of people know how to drive properly. Brilliant. My brother has a 12 Ecoboost F150 Platinum. No traffic, highway, 16 MPG at best. I spent a few years in the ecomodding hobby, I can squeeze, hypermile, whatever. I can get full tank 22mpg out of my auto CTS-V with mods. But I can't drive that truck to good fuel economy to save my life. For MPG, give me high compression N/A over low compression turbo any day of the week.

You'd think technology would allow for better MPG now. My Speed6 nets me 23-24 MPG on the regular & that is being in boost a lot.

thats very odd, my 2012 ecoboost truck (2 wheel drive, 3.73s) will knock down 20.5mpg with the cruise control on 78.

also its been mentioned before that these small displacement turbo engines do well in EPA mileage testing to help them meet cafe standards. The motors then dont meet the expectation in the real world for the most part, seems like the EPA testing is outdated/unrealistic but then again...we're talking about a government agency so no big surprise

I have to laugh at people saying they don’t get good gas mileage out of EBs.

My 2015 F150 SCrew FX4 Max Tow 3.5EB gets 18-19 City and 22 Interstate. Give it a 55mph country highway and I can get 25mpg. My 11 Ranger 4x4 4.0 never got about 19mpg.

Damn, I can only get around 150 miles city/highway out of a tank of fuel on my auto v2 cts-v, but thats with E85 :p

Comes out to around 10 or 11 mpg city/highway combined, and that is with using cruise control, staying out of boost, etc...

Blows my mind people don't understand this. Actually, that's a lie; since The Internet was invented, I am never surprised when people publicly fail to understand the obvious.

The shit is designed to meet the test. That's it. CAFE, emissions, various market-specific displacement regs...that's why the shit exists. You can replicate the test results all day long if you use the testing methodology. If you don't, you won't. Shocking. Utterly shocking!

I drive my wife's car with the 3.5L TT and I get an easy 4-5 mpg improvement over Queen DD leadfoot.

People will be pleased with the Bronco. Very pleased.

glad to hear about the Bronco! Not that I'll buy one but I still don't want em to ruin it.

the TT motors definitely take a light foot, hell at less than 1/4 throttle I find myself zipping way out in front of traffic from most lights. My wife gets a solid 1-2 mpg better than me but whatever, it beats the hell out of the 9mpg I got in my Lightning. If it weren't for CAFE we'd all be driving all steel trucks with big blocks still.

Unlikely.

It's not going to be a Moab rock crawler though if you're primarily into that.
All I know is the Bronco will have solid axles from Dana. Also, Bill Ford said "It will be a true, tough Bronco; a real off-road vehicle.”

It makes me excited for the Bronco but I really want to see how it compares to the Jeep.

Ecoboost engines look great in low engine load conditions on the Dyno for cafe testing and at idle. If you drive aggressive or drive in hilly conditions that put a load on the engine and require boost, you will be draining gas faster than a comparable and properly sized NA motor.

The Jeep is a great vehicle for utility but it's a pretty low bar as far as being a nice car to drive. Bronco is definitely going to be a slightly different market than Jeep. I think Ford is more interested in overlanding and the configurability required for that than rock crawling.
