May as well just could macros and eat flexible diet. That way you can still eat a moderate amount of carbs. If you’re looking to loose weight and keep it off long term.

Wife is doing keto and my brother in law did it. It works well if you adhere to it strictly. Have to be very careful about what in your food. As previously said, sugars and carbs can sneak in.

I have been doing it for a while now. At first I lost a lot of weight, too much. I was really trying to control blood sugar as my fasting levels had risen to prediabetic and I do NOT want to get full blown diabetes, so it is now a constant battle to stay away from carbs and sugary stuff (which I love).

A couple of months ago I joined local Planet Fitness and have put on about 15 pounds of muscle by working out hard and eating more proteins.

I'll be doing Keto diet (or similar) for rest of life, unless they come up with a way to rebuild the pancreas, hahaha. I would just LOVE to go back to eating ice cream and pizza!

Kudos for taking control of your health, but no one is putting 15lbs of muscle on in a couple months without juicing hard.

Well, sources I've read on weight lifting say best results usually come in beginning. Scale says 15 pounds. Mirror says bigger muscles. Perhaps it's 10lbs muscle and 5 pounds 'other', hahaha..... I've been doing BCAA's, protein and some legally prescribed 'juice' too, so maybe that helps. ;)

any gains are great. Trading fat for muscle is always satisfying.

Several co-workers did this diet as part of a company-wise "biggest loser" competition. No, I wasn't eligible unfortunately, because they likely knew I'd have won simply on the principle of being such a loser. Oh well.

But about the diet- some of these guys are barely recognizable after how much they lost in 6 months. I keep telling myself I should consider it but I always wind up with horrible migraines any time I change up my diet (especially reducing caffeine and sugar intake)

I can't keep up with all these diets. Also, according to everything anything we eat is bad for us unless it's a vegetable. Plus I love chocolate.

maybe try easing into it? And no need to get rid of the coffee, just make it black ;)

I've been on it for about 6 months. Lost the weight I wanted to in the first 2 months and have kept it off with kind of a maintenance level of carbs. First 2-3 months I kept under the 20 carb number. The last three months, I bet I average 30-40 carbs a day and I've been able to maintain weight. Went from 215 to 183. Now if I want to cheat a day here and there it is no big deal. Some say it is good to cycle your body out of Ketosis every once in a while, kind of like a kick.

Still get to drink when I want. Start off with a few Mich Ultras and follow it with Crown and water when I get sick of the beer. 2.6 in each Ultra and ZERO in Crown and water.

Biggest thing to keep in mind, this is a lifestyle change. I don't really want to consider it a diet because I'll probably stick with it the rest of my life. Don't jump off the diet and go back to a high carb diet. That is a huge mistake a lot of people make. You will gain it all back, plus some, very quickly. Only way would be to transition to a very low calorie diet.

Curious if anyone here has done or is actively doing a ketogenic/minimum carb eating plan. Please post up what you typically consume and your thoughts on the whole thing. I am trying to shed some weight that accumulated the past several years and this seems like an 'easy' way to do it if you are disciplined. I also heard it greatly boosts energy. Going to get back in the habit of daily workouts as well, but am more looking for feedback on keto diets. Thoughts?

Been on it since January or so, I checked the other day and I'm down 37lbs. I haven't been going to the gym at all, but I'm going to soon.

At this point I'm on auto pilot. I'll have cheat days and what not where I drink beer, they are usually special occasions though like hanging out with friends.

My energy levels haven't really changed, I don't really get tired though like you do after a sugar high. I like the fact that you can eat once per day, there are a lot of arguments for/against intermittent fasting, but I really only do it because I only get hungry once per day.

I keep my carbs under 20 per day and sometimes if I slip up, it's no biggie, I don't get kicked out of ketosis as often as I expected. I will say I didn't feel particularly great the other night when we went out for my buddy's b day. I had an awful lot of carbs at hibachi.

from what I'm reading, once you get a few weeks in, your cravings for carbs pretty much goes away.

This is true.

In the first few weeks you will get cravings bad, but out of no where it just changes. I can walk into a bakery and smell the fresh bread and it doesn't phase me at all.

It also changes the way you taste stuff. We had a cheat day a while back when we were traveling and I grabbed 2 hot and spicy's from McDonalds. They tasted like pure sugar, enough that it was a turn off.

I played around with it this past winter. I couldn't eat all the fat. I started to hate eating so I quit. I can do high protein low carbs with some fat thrown in but mostly fat isn't for me

Then just do lazy keto, just limit your carbs to 20g per day and eat whatever else you want.

For anyone who wants to do this, you need to understand that you will feel like shit for the first week or two. It's called keto flu and it's your body trying to convert from running on sugar to running on fat. Also, you'll need to up your salt intake because your body will flush it all out.

KETO works for dropping weight and works well.

The older you get, the quicker your natural metabolism and carb burning slows down.

After being 180 lbs most of my adult life, when I turned 40 I was the heaviest I’ve ever been at 202 lbs ... I’m 5’10”..... too damn heavy. Felt lethargic all the time.

I’m in otherwise good health but wanted to lose some weight.

I went balls deep 100% no carbs for 10 days straight eating only veggies, eggs, cheese, and red meat.

I lost 12 lbs in 10 days back to 190 lbs. It was insane.

I now cycle the diet when I feel I’m getting too heavy and intermittently fast from Sunday dinner to Monday dinner and the weight has stayed off for 6 months.

I’m about 184 as I’m sitting here right now.

It’s a great diet!

I feel your pain! 41 and I have to really watch it now as well, similar vitals too. The frustrating thing is my physical activity, workouts have been pretty steady (4-5 times a week). I feel that I have the same intensity during workouts that I did at 20 years old, however the weight definitely doesn't stay off like it used too, so very careful with carbs these days. The good thing about eating this type of diet is the cravings do eventually go away and it's feasible that I could keep this up for the rest my life.

I might have to try this.

What are you guys eating and how are you preparing it? I will need some variety to help maintain.
Grilled or broiled fish and other seafood, I am addicted to hickory smoked tuna. Chicken and turkey breast, pork tender loin, wild game, eggs, beef, lamb, etc. I keep a high protein diet.

Snacks for me are pistachios, cashews, and peanuts.

I'm not a big vegetable eater, so I supplement my diet with vitamins. I do eat beans, peas, carrots, and potatoes. It is just in moderation.

At the moment I have to drop 50lbs. I got sick a short while back and refused to go to the Dr. When I did I had a sinus infection, bronchitis, pneumonia, and to too it off, the flu. I took a lot of steroids and antibiotics. I gained a lot of fat due to inactivity and eating quick, easy meals that are nothing short of junk food. Plus a lot of ice cream.
