Posted this in Donut Shop too, but figured it would garner more attention in here.

A very young man and likely just starting his career. This one is local, with the immediate community affected deeply. I never got the chance to meet this Trooper, but RIP.

Trooper killed in crash on I-77 southbound in Yadkin County

The driver was caught either yesterday or the day before and is facing some kind of murder charge, while I believe the passenger turned herself in and is free. No idea of the rumored third person.

I believe that is the case, but there's radio audio floating around where the lead car (unmarked) was trying to surrender his lead to the marked car (Bullard) and the wreck happened somewhere in between.

Very sad story. I read about it on the new yesterday. Wasn't Trooper Bullard supposed to be married later this year? So sad.

Didn't know it know as considered murder when someone crashes chasing you. Wow Did they say why he wasnt pulling over?

Anytime someone dies as the result of a felony, murder applies. At least that's if I'm understanding this right. And it was felony evading. The same way as if I walk into a bank, point my gun at snakecharmer (the teller) but you die of a heart attack. Instant murder.

The suspect, Dakota Whitt, has a long rap sheet. This time, it was simply blowing through a license check because he had a revoked license.

Really sucks the guy crashed and died. I guess charging the perp with his death makes sense; but it never really sat right with me. It’s almost like it should be involuntary manslaughter. Like the guy can be a turd without being a murderer. You make a dumb choice to run, flighty when young and your future lies on someone else’s competence to drive?

Blah blah ‘your direct actions caused it’ ~ did it make him crash? Did they effect the guys talent at the wheel?

It’s 2018 do we really need to have a high speed chase over something silly? It’s a fox chase. Pick the kid up at home and don’t put the rest of the people on the road in jeopardy having three or more flying down the road. Gotta get the bad guys I guess. This is what happens when playing Wild West goes wrong.

Stupid or not, you aren’t bringing that officer back. Damn shame.

Yes.

Today we are laying to rest a local officer who was killed by the getaway driver of his three asshole buddies who were robbing a house. He was confronted by officer Amy Caprio who was responding to a suspicious vehicle, he ran her over as he was trying to get away leaving his friends in the house. All four are being charged with first degree murder...

3 more teen suspects charged with murder in death of Baltimore County police officer

Felony eluding, as stated above. Lol
I honestly didn't know eluding was a felony. I thought 'felony eluding' meant you were running after committing a felony.

RIP. I've heard enough bad things about Baltimore that I'm not shocked by the fact that it was 4 teenagers.

As far as North Carolina is concerned:

"§ 20-141.5. Speeding to elude arrest; seizure and sale of vehicles.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle on a street, highway, or public vehicular area while fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer who is in the lawful performance of his duties. Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, violation of this section shall be a Class 1 misdemeanor.
(b) If two or more of the following aggravating factors are present at the time the violation occurs, violation of this section shall be a Class H felony.
(1) Speeding in excess of 15 miles per hour over the legal speed limit.
(2) Gross impairment of the person's faculties while driving due to: a. Consumption of an impairing substance; or b. A blood alcohol concentration of 0.14 or more within a relevant time after the driving.
(3) Reckless driving as proscribed by G.S. 20-140.
(4) Negligent driving leading to an accident causing: a. Property damage in excess of one thousand dollars ($1,000); or b. Personal injury.
(5) Driving when the person's drivers license is revoked.

(6) Driving in excess of the posted speed limit, during the days and hours when the posted limit is in effect, on school property or in an area designated as a school zone pursuant to G.S. 20-141.1, or in a highway work zone as defined in G.S. 20-141(j2).
(7) Passing a stopped school bus as proscribed by G.S. 20-217. (8) Driving with a child under 12 years of age in the vehicle."

Highlighted in red are the violations I know that he's guilty of, per the police report. Not to mention he blew through a license check. That in and of itself probably isn't a felony, but I'm sure it violates some law.
