My man. I am a huge fan of my Springfield Mil Spec. Anything upgrades?
Nothing internally. Has a surefire X300 light, and some different grips that's about it. ChipMcormick 10rnd mag too. It shoots fantastic out of the box. It's my ready weapon.

When did the Kimbers start going downhill? I have an older kimber custom TLE ii that’s been a great pistol to me. Just curious because I’ve thought about getting a second one like an ultra carry by kimber.

My understanding is it was when the top dog who is now screwing up Sig was running Kimber.

Love Springfields. The Range Officer is one of the best bang for your buck 1911 pistols out there.
Yes they are-

I have owned a few 1911's and from that list here is my opinions.

Sigs have a proprietary slide, which does not fit into standard 1911 holsters. I've owned one Sig 1911 and it had the most issue's in terms of reliability. I've had a few Springfields, one TRP and one Operator. The TRP was the best fit production pistol I've personally owned. The Operator was nice but had some area's that weren't fully finished. The plug on the back of the firing pin was not finished on the operator and loose ambi safeties was isssue on both pistols. The Operator was reliable with everything that was put through it, the TRP was finicky with certain Hollow points and I attribute that to being tightly fit. My colt CQB M45A1 has been the most reliable 1911 of all production pistols I have owned. However like others have posted their fit and finish does leave something to be desired. I wouldn't say they aren't worth it and honestly its my favorite pistol. In my experiences 1911's from all the production companies tend to be hit or miss. That might be an unpopular opinion but for every one good 1911 someone always seems to have an issue with another. I would say make sure to examine it before buying, if its used see if you can fire it. Magazines are the best thing for 1911's in my experience, usually Wilson or Tripp research have been the best for me. CMC mags give mine issues. If i am carrying a 1911, I'd be less concerned with how tight it is, and more so with its reliability. I'd shoot different hollow points until you find the one that works for that particular gun.

I've also owned STI 1911's which are very nice, little pricey. I've heard great things from S&W PC 1911's, I just don't like all their markings they put on them. Kimber's are way overpriced for what you get, and I am not fond of a gun that the barrels rust just sitting in the case. Kimber is not what it used to be after their previous owner who cut corners. The same thing is happening to Sig. I have never owned a Dan Wesson, however I have handled a few and they are very nicely fit and finished so take that for what its worth.

To follow on to @rightushook, I own 93 x 1911 Frame pistols in a variety of calibers. 57 of those are almost evenly divided between Sigs and Kimbers. I have not had a single problem with any of my Kimbers or Sigs EXCEPT for a single 10mm Kimber that does not like Wilson Combat magazines. The balance of my 1911s are Springfield Armory, S&W, Colt, RIA, and Ithaca. The Colts are the "sloppiest" feeling of all the 1911s, and some of those Colts are on the more expensive end. The Kimbers are my favorite of the 1911s that I own, and 8 of my Kimbers were made back in OR. I know that the Dan Wessons, Ed Brown's, and STIs are nice, but I could never bring myself to buy one.

If you have never owned a 1911, I would suggest buying a mid-major brand to ensure that you will like shooting it. Some people do not enjoy shooting a 1911, and it would suck to find out after you paid +$3K for a top end 1911. A Sig, SA, Kimber 1911 is a good place to start if you are buying your first. Will leave you some money to buy 10 round magazines and ammo.

For insurance, if you buy one of those three brands I listed and do not like it, send me a PM and I will buy it off of you for fair market value via FFL transfer.

I just don't understand these people, took a buddy out to shoot some of my 1911s and he did not like it at all, preferred shooting my XD .45 and his HK VP .40 over any of the 1911s. Guess he just prefers the modern tupperware to the old iron. I have since struggled to remain his friend :D

I've shot Colts, Kimbers, Springfields and Dan Wessons. I bought Dan Wessons and would buy them again and again. The fit, finish and repeatably is consistent.

Case support on delta elite sucks which means you cannot run hot ammo. Underwood comes with a sticker that it is not to be used in delta elite.

Buddy has one that I have shot and it ran fine. He's had it for a long time with no issues but knowing him he is probably aware of that.

One thing for sure. Wilson Combat magazines just flat out work.

I love my Delta Elite, but this seems to be it's Achilles heel. I won't shoot hot ammunition through it on a consistent basis for this reason. Flock makes a heck of a 10mm

They bent the long ass ejector on my Colt Competition in 9MM, but I run them in my .45's.

I just bought some Tripps Cobra mags for my new 1911 in 9mm, with the alloy Dawson competition basepads, and I gotta say I am very impressed.

So, is the Colt Competition worth adding to this list ? I haven't shot one, but heard that they were worth the 800 dollar asking price.

I had one. I'd get one in 45, not 9mm. I don't like their dangly ejector on the 9mm.

No. You are paying a tax for the pony. Quality underwhelming IMO. Would get a Springfield loaded or Ruger at that price point.
