Awesome glad everything seemed to go well. I've always wondered about getting it done myself

I had PRK done back in 2004. One of the best things I ever did. Now the wife is thinking about Lasik since the doctor said she might need bifocals soon.

I had PRK done back in 2004. One of the best things I ever did. Now the wife is thinking about Lasik since the doctor said she might need bifocals soon.
If she’ll need bifocals soon she has the same questions I did. By having lasik to see at distance her eyes will not be able to focus up close to read.

If this is the case after lasik she will need reading glasses right after lasik or in a few years. I came across multiple ophthalmologist that say based on this lasik is not worth as she would still need glasses.

I could not read with my perscription glasses and had to take them off to read. With lasik however you simply can’t remove it.
My question became, glasses outside and in a few years bifocals or lasik and wearing reading glasses indoors to read. I chose the lasik.
With that decision in order help me read longer the doctor only did 90% correction in my non dominant eye. After surgery I currently have 20/20 and I can still read.

Something I found that I mentioned above:
“The question asked is very appropriate and resonates with me very well. I had Laser Vision Correction performed in 1995, when I was 38. As an Ophthalmologist, knowing full well what happens to our ability to read in our 40's, I opted for my dominant right eye to be treated 100%(giving me 20/20 distance vision) and my left eye to be treated 95%(giving me 20/30 distance vision). I am now 55 years old and I am still enjoying relative reading glass independence. So, for me, it was a great choice. I don't feel I sacrificed(then or now) any distance quality or depth perception. Obviously, as a surgeon, my depth perception is crucial. While in my 40's, I did not need reading glasses at all, but decided to get a pair of over the counter reading glasses a few years ago to make reading at night a little easier. I still don't wear readers in the office or out socially, but in low light I now need some help. Interestingly, since the advent of Kindles and iPads, I find that when I am struggling at all, I can just change the font size and keep on going! So, I am a big advocate of addressing reading where it's appropriate. I would discuss it with your surgeon, though, and ask them to demonstrate the result with a contact lens trial to make sure you can tolerate the difference in the two eyes.”

Thank you for the info. I'll have to let her know. I figure it wouldn't hurt for her to at least get checked out. I do remember when I got my eyes done they said it would push me into reading glasses sooner, but I'm still going good without them.

Update!

Had the surgery yesterday at Kleiman/Evangelists In Arlington, Tx.

Staff was amazing , and The procedure couldn't of been any easier.
There was literally no pain to it at all.
Only a bit of discomfort that lasted a few seconds at a time.
From the time I went into the room, to the tine I went out, it was about 8 mins total.
I rechecked today at a local optometrist and I am seeing 20/20(**** yeah)
After the procedure I walked into the car, sat for the 2hr drive home , and of course closed my eyes the second we left the parking lot.
Got home about 5:30 and tried to open my eyes but couldn't, I could only slightly open for a sec then they would shut. They we're stinging as well, like I had soap in my eyes, and that started right after I had got into the car lol. That kinda sucked.
Anyhow I layed down, woke up at 730 for drops and still couldn't hold them open.
Woke up again at 830, still couldn't hold the open
Woke up at 930, still couldn't hold them open, At this point I was beginning to trip balls because I just could not hold them open any longer than about 1 second.
10:05 came around and BAM! Eyes were cooperating correctly now, I could open and keep open no problem, ****ing crazy lol
As of today I only have tiny discomfort in my left eye but none the less it ready to get healed!

So far so good, extremely happy I made the decision to get my peepers some surgery!

This is why I haven't gotten Lasik surgery. My Ophthalmologist recommended against it, too. I would love to have 20/20 and not wear any glasses, even for reading, but unfortunately that can't be the case. So I'm resigned to wearing bifocals (lineless).

@4stang6, I'm glad it worked out well for you. That's awesome! Enjoy your perfect eyesight with no glasses! :)

Congrats on the new eyes. I had mine done 5 years ago due to a contact falling out and being lost while I was reffing a high school football game. I had enough at that point.
Trying to talk my wife into it as well.

I had Lasik 7 years ago glad I did it. I always thought Lasik was just for seeing distance if you need help seeing up close you need to have the lenses replaced like Crystal Lens. I'm 45 and still see good at a distance and do not need glasses for reading. Lasik didn't harm my vision up close at all.

Bob, that’s the question I asked here before my surgery. Seeing how many older people(over 40) have had lasik and how did it work and effect their near vision. With the positive response I went ahead with the surgery.

What I did not want was to be out and about then pull out reading glasses to read a text or email on my phone.

I had PRK done a couple years ago, recovery was hell for a few days, nothing but laying in bed trying to sleep all day because it felt like I had sand in my eyes. Took a little while to not reach for my glasses when getting out of bed or the shower but it was a great decision.

Day 3
Another day steadily improving .....
Left eye that was scratchy is less scratchy today by a Longshot , Almost not noticeable.
Anyhow only thing I have noticed so far is bright colors have a slight fog around them, and I mean the slightest , Which they say will go as everything heals.Again it's very slight to the point where I am just being picky about it.
It actually doesn't even bother me lol.
Anyhow! Best money I have spent, I swear every evening I so far I've been telling myself gotta take out my contacts before bed lol , But quickly forget there is none haha.
