I'm posted about sleep paralysis before but never in detail about the dream that has always given it to me. For about 15 years that I can remember I have had sleep paralysis on occasion. The feeling is never short of terrifying for those who haven't experienced.

I can only describe it as having a terrible doom coming closer and closer to you that seems as real as anything you've ever experienced but at the same time sensing you're sleep and can end the threat but you can't wake up.

Being that I'm married to a light sleeper, she's seen this happen to me and says I look like I'm having a seizure when this happens. (she's in the medical field) I breathe shallow and fast and my whole body tenses up. She always tries to wake me to varying (time) levels of success never taking more that 10 minutes to do so.

That I always felt was because in the recurring nightmare I have there is a demon in the corner of the room with red or white eyes depending on the occurrence slowly coming closer and closer to me while opening it's arms with daggers for fingernails and widening it's mouth with T-Rex like teeth as if to consume me. The demon has never touched me in this dream I have had over and over again.

Tonight was different. I have never had a dream like I had tonight, never have I had one that was so vivid and scary. It started off in NYC as me trying to get somewhere to make an important call I made and it was exciting because I got news a large deal I was working on was about to get the green light so I was looking for a phone.

As I searched for a place to make the call I asked random people where to find a phone and a couple told me where to go. As I went to the street corner they described I got confused and asked a few other people and each response got more and more angry and aggressive to the point where two men stabbed me....after that shit got insane.

Day immediately changed to night and the humans I saw before me started to turn into something else....different animal/humanoid type forms with large T-Rex type teeth, blood about the mouth, some of them with tails akin to a picture of a demon. As the attacks continued I noticed this black figure swaying closer and closer, almost dancing toward me with it's back facing me.

As the figure came close I saw one of it's claws and knew immediately that it was MY demon. It was drawing closer and closer but it was much different than ever before. It was moving much faster than ever before and this time the dream had noise. Every time I'd seen the demon before the dream was silent.

Finally, with it was only feet from me and turned quickly grabbing my arms looking me directly in the (his were white cat-like eyes with glowing white corneas and pitch black pupils) and screaming while spitting blood on my face "You're going to die here" in the most realistic, demonic, gutteral voice I've ever heard. As he began to bite into my jaw I finally woke.

This was the most intense and terrifying episode I've ever had. I could hear my Wife calling my name to wake up and was trying to do so myself. She says that when I do this I call out in my sleep to wake up but don't. This goes along with the typical crazy dreaming, verbal diarrhea, and full body flex that goes with it.

I find this so interesting because we really don't understand dreams from everything I've read....scientists seem to guess at it at best. I have dreamed about this demon for almost 2 decades in the exact same situation over and over until and hour ago.

I'm sure I'll get plenty of TLDRs here but I find it interesting and I'm curious if any of you have experienced anything similar because I'm sure as Hell not going back to bed this morning.

That’s pretty crazy. I have sleep paralysis, but, at least for me, it’s not a dream. I am lucid and completely awake. Occasionally I wake up but my body is kinda tingly and I cannot move or even speak; I can only move my eyes. A sheer terrifying feeling overcomes me and I see demons or what have you in the room looking at me.
It happened quite often as a kid, but not too frequent anymore. Several months ago I had an episode and I tried yelling for my wife beside me, but I couldn’t get words out.
It is definitely a scary phenomenon.

I have it occasionally, but less now than in years past. It's never been a recurring dream though it's always something different, but always the same sense of dread. Mine usually occur in the early stages of sleep, where I'm dozing and I realize I'm sleeping but can't move. It's pretty intense.

I posted some very similar information in the "haunted house" thread.

I totally believe you, OP. Sleep paralysis can be a nasty and terrifying ordeal. I'm not a medical professional, so I'm going solely off empirical evidence. SP seems exacerbated by stress and consistent sleep deprivation. I went through a stint where I would feel sleep paralysis the moment I laid down on my bed.

As for the demons that people see? That's where it gets foggy. The state of panic is a fight or flight response, and I believe our minds try to fabricate something terrifying to match the stress/horrific feeling. Recurring makes sense, because after the first time, it's a strong memory and easy to recall.

My advice? Don't read into it too much. Work on whatever is causing the stress in the first place. Also, any changes to sleep habits can alter the effect. I noticed mine went away when I closed all doors, left a small soft-blue LED at the opposite side of the room, and kept the fan on.

Another trick people use is to focus on an object in the room before bed. Pick it up, hold it in your hand, place it down in plain view. If you happen to wake up in SP, make sure the object is within normal view. Sometimes that helps you snap out of it.

Do some soul searching, and you'll figure out what the dream means to you.

Most likely, you talk for a living/you're lack of speaking your voice is causing you to stay in place. Whether it be in your job, your home, your friends, or your relationship. So you feel trapped, like this is how it will always be. The demon is the messenger, the bite is the anxiety, and the jaw is the symbol of speech. Death here means the end, be it death or complacency.

I have/had lots of weird strange dreams. I consistently used to have nitemares every night.

not at my post...
RE: sleep paralysis, have dealt with it since I was a kid, though it didn’t occur much during teen years, wasn’t till my later 20s that it came back. I have found wiggling my toes, fingers allows me to usually regain control quickly of my extremities and wake up. The feeling of dread is very real, though have somewhat gotten used to it now.

I was in a nightmare resolution group after the war. didnt sleep well for over 13 years. still dont. but this trick kis the one that helped the most:

if you know your nightmare, live it out during the day and change the ending, this will train your mind and the thoughts wont be suppressed

In the other thread I spoke about the SP I have been getting lately and I think I first experienced it back when I was 18 and got it periodically from that point on. I believe it is more spiritual than just your bodies reaction during sleep. If I had to explain what I think happens, it would be that the presence of a spirit puts your body into a shock and paralysis that we know as SP and they take advantage of it. There is a cause and effect but all we have explained is the effect.

My belief comes from supernatural experiences that have occurred during SP as well during conscious moments that have almost identical similarities. My good friend and old roommate was having a SP episode a few years back but I didn't know it as his bed was on the other side of the room. I felt the presence of a spirit in the room and I awoke immediately before it could get a hold of me so to say. I sat up and looked over to the door to our room and it was nothing unusual but just pitch black and I knew it was there. I prayed and told it to leave and within a few seconds I felt it leave and I lay back down and see my roommate tossing and turning but I don't say anything and go back to sleep. The next morning my roommate tells me he had a terrifying dream, similar to OP's where he is at a house and there are people there and the mood is great. He goes to the kitchen and looks out the sliding glass door and it is black outside. He opens the door and a tall black figure comes out of the darkness and grabs a hold of him, but he said at that point it all just ended and he woke up. I told him about what I felt and woke up to and we both compared the time that we were up which are times were within minutes of each other, it was like 3:15 or 4:15 or something like that. He was a little freaked out I could tell, and he just sort of went on in disbelief that it happened.

I have sleep paralysis and ot only happens in certain houses I slept in. And those houses have multiple occurrences.

I noticed it would happen if I left the bedroom door open and or hallway lights on. Closed the doors and it rarely happened.

I suffer from sleep paralysis also. Now more than ever it’s been better though. I have minor case of sleep apnea and would snore. Although, Even then with the breathing machine I’ve been severely ****ed with. The dreams I have are at mid point where I’m awake and fully know what’s going on. Very hard to describe. My worse case was with the breathing machine on.

For instance, I’m asleep and my wife is next to me. I feel her scoot over and start to rub my side under the blanket, touch my leg and my stomach. I then tell her... Selina, what are you doing up so late. It’s pitch black and she’s kinda under the blanket foolin around. I thought to myself maybe she’s hot and bothered meh Whatever

Although,
It’s not in her nature to “play”’around at that time of night. Usually, it’s earlier or before bed. Anyhow, no response when I asked her the question, weird I said to myself. So I let her continue but then she laughed. Now, this wasn’t your normal laugh either. It just didn’t sound like my wife. Something was off. No demon sound just off. Now I’m really Looking over for my wife, best as possible, squinting and all, I also grab to feel if my wife was there. Sure shit she was laying there sound asleep while I’m gettin ****ed with. I look over to see what the **** this is but whatever was there laughed and gone!

Talk about the most ****ed up feeling something playing tricks on you in such a manner you think it’s your wife.

I immidetialy woke her up and told her what happen.

There’s some ****ed up shit out there Man. I used to be a holy man but I don’t practice much anymore or go to church. I do have faith tho.
I believe some of the dead never rest. Some either are locked or lost. I have plenty more shitty stories but pressed on time.

Man, that is creepy! It's essentially what horror movies are made from. At my old barracks a lot of the guys were getting messed with pretty bad. Multiple guys were seeing the same charred-burnt man show up in each of their rooms and then one night one of the guys had a similar occurrence as you. He felt someone get on the bed as he was laying there and he couldn't move. After a few seconds of feeling something on him and being terrified he heard a voice whisper in his ear "Hello Billy, remember me?" and then it was gone just like that.

Probably won’t help you OP, but One of the coolest explanations of dreams I’ve heard comes from quantum theory and parallel universes.

Basically every possible scenario of ones life is being played out simultaneously in a multi-verse running parallel to ours.

This theory has been used to explain dreams and deja vu being glimpses into these “other lives” or other dimensions.

Pretty interesting stuff, especially considering it is backed up with math.

I find it simple, brain runs on chemicals and electricity, it can make ANYTHING seem real.

Many would agree with you, however quantum research has been redefining our conception of “real”.

I personally enjoying thinking outside of the box. It can be labeled as hocus pocus or whatever you like but quantum theory simply explains things like dreams, ghosts, or anything “supernatural” that have never been able to be understood before.

I forget which topic was tied to dreams specifically. Some notable topics include string theory and entanglement.
