I’m getting ready for my fifth 1/2 Mile race in my ‘03 Vert and I’m mulling over changing pulley setups. Is there an optimal pulley combo for this type of racing? Right now I’m running a 2.7” upper with 4pound lower and Metco idlers making 485/512, which I know is pushing the blower way past it’s efficiency range. However, it does have a Steg Stage 7 and I run a Snow Meth kit. I make peak torque real quick, but torque doesn’t equate to top speed. Just wondering if there’s something to be gained by changing things up.

They are a blast and a great way to race against cars you’d otherwise never see on the street. What’s your setup?

For 1/2 mile I would probably put a 2.93 upper on there with the 4lb lower. I'd also invest in a 7.5 gallon trunk tank to load with ice before each run.

2.3 tvs making 21lbs, e85, full suspension set up for handling, 14" brembo brakes, racebronco true heat extracting hood (hopefully this helps with both heat and aero) and I'm redoing my intercooling system with Justin's flow mod, 7gal tank, vmp gt500 h/e and a stewart pump.
I feel like it's a pretty efficenct combo that is set up well to do something like this. I need to figure out how to launch though, this car cant go from a dig with out spinning

You don’t really need to worry about your launch. Cutting a quick 60 foot time really doesn’t mean a whole lot. I’ve made runs where I spun all the way through first and part of second and still came within a MPH of runs where I just eased out and then hammered once I got to about 30-40.

It’s more about aero, HP, and precise shifting because you’re going to go through first through fifth unless you’ve changed your rear ended gears or transmission set up.
