All ordered up, last question on tires, I promised. Toyo R888 or R888R?

Just like the header says. Got everything else ordered, just need the back tires. Should I do the R888s for about 525 bucks or the R888R and that would be about 610. Is one a little more "street able" than the other. Thanks for all the input, dusting off the cobra, I'm actually excited to get back into it :)

The R’s adds a silly little water channel and say it has better water channeling. Outside of the tread pattern the R888 carries an SL load rating while the R’s carry XL.

R888 is 26.3 diameter
R888R is 26.4.

the size I can get in the R888 is a 305 35 18 and the size I can get in the R888R is a 315 30 18 , so that is a little difference to with a 275 35 18 on the front.

My post was with respect to the 305 35 18 size. Tire rack sells 305 35 18 in both r and non r.

Have u happen to hit any water or rain yet? If so, how did they do? Do u have 275 35s on front?

Sorry I have not...I try to avoid bad weather in the car all together. Yes 275 35 on front but they are Mickey Thompson. Keep in mind the Toyo run wider. I probably could have gotten away with the 305. My previous was 315 MT drag radial.

A small thing to point out if it makes a difference to you... the R888s and the R888Rs have different tread patterns. There were some members on another forum complaining about how the Rs have tread that curves forward on the outside one one side of the car and aft on the outside on the other side of the car. I haven’t seen the Rs so I cannot attest to this first hand. For the R888s, the tread looks uniform. There is no asymmetry from side-to-side.

I just found the R888Rs for even cheaper, 512 Shipped for a pair of 315 30 18s. After a ton of reviews it looks like these are a little quieter, a little better handling, damn I'm torn.

If it helps any I’ve had my R888R’s for 5-6k miles and they still have life left. Not sure how that compares to the original 888’s.
I’ve heard people saying they handle 7-800 whp pretty well. They handle rain pretty well, very similar to the NT555’s I had.
Also the tires are asymmetrical so if that bothers then you’d have to get the regular 888’s.View attachment 1502445

Which ones were they saying handled rain pretty well? Do the regular 555s handle the rain good, I'm kind of leaning towards those

R888R’s handle the rain just as well as my old Nitto NT555’s did. I used them in the rain but tried to not since high horsepower cars and rain don’t mix well. I’d not use them when it’s sub 50 degrees the tires get hard and you can damage them but that’s with all R compound tires.

I have 17” 888’s On the twistiest roads around me I can push the car hard into the curves and haven’t found the break loose point for the rear end yet and my wheel hop it gone. I laugh when I read about tire noise, who hears that in a Cobra?
