Anyone with a 2.7L EB F150 regret not getting the 3.5?

Really like my 3.5, I saw someone say the 2.7 is quieter, but my 3.5 freaked me out all the time coming up on stop signs. It runs so damn quiet I thought the damn thing was shutting off on me.

Well some will shut off. One thing I dislike, the motor will shut off if stopped for a certain period of time. There is a button to push on the dash to disable it. I find myself pushing that button as soon as I start the truck.

But the turbo's sure sound nice!

We took my GF's BMW to the dealer to have them flash it to stay in the last mode the car was in when shut off. Whole reason was to avoid having to push the auto off button after every key cycle.

Not sure what the process for ford is.

Yeah something I might look into. Reminds me of having to always turn traction control off in the cobra. Luckily, my current tuner shut it off.

None whatsoever, Injected lowered it and put exhaust / intake on it. Peppy truck now. He de badged it too, and is debating some Velgen wheels for it.

And @Coiled03 sick truck bro.

Awesome, I’m looking at 15-16’s. Most have the 2.7 in the option/package I want some have the 5.0. I don’t really tow shit and if I ever did it may be a trailer with lawn equipment, or my Cobra on an open trailer from Dayton, to Columbus down the road for a tune. I just don’t know much about the 2.7 and don’t know if it would cost me more down the road than the 5.0.

So, I've been following this thread closely due to always owning Cummins diesel powered trucks. Eventually, I plan to get a new one and I am thinking seriously about getting into a 1/2 ton F150. I know some on this thread already own a F150. Have any of you with the 2.7 hauled a car or truck a good distance? How did it perform?

Been driving this thing since Saturday, noon time, and all I can say is I'm thoroughly impressed with everything about this truck. Honestly, I was wondering how I would feel about driving a 6 cylinder truck. But that concern vanished after about 10 minutes of driving. If I could summarize it, I'd say it feels like a Cadillac with a 5.5ft bed attached. And it will get up and MOVE for its size.

Just ordered some weathertech floor mats, and I'm debating some mud flaps, too. Hoping to get it tinted in the next few weeks., just dark enough to match the rear windows, and a 6" banner strip. Also gonna put a clear bra on it, probably. After that, I'm just gonna drive it for awhile.

I can't speak for the 2.7, but if anyone is wondering about the 3.5, it's fabulous. That's all I can say.

FYI, I have the Ford molded mudflats on my 16, they are doing fine after 2 winters and same with the weathertechs.
Keeps everything a lot cleaner.....

Solid choice! Now get an LMS tune and let'r rip!

FWIW, my FIL has a '16 F150 ECSB 2WD with the base 3.5 and it feels stronger than the '07 F150 ECSB 2WD it replaced. So a twin turbo 2.7 or 3.5 should be a hoot in it.

FORScan is awesome with what you can do for free. Everyone needs to do this. I added a sub and turned it it, turned my navigation on, babmi lights and global windows so far.

In the future plan to add tailgate ajar warning, radar cruise and some stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Any issues with it?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

None so far but I've only had it for about 5 months. Has 38K on it now but the OASIS report was clean when I bought it.

I'd like to, but I don't know how my dealer would react. I've been told as long as you uninstall the tune, they can't tell, but I've also heard they CAN tell. So, I don't know which to believe, and I'm having a hard time taking the risk on a leased vehicle.

You can enable most features on the truck even if your's didn't come with it. Some require you to buy additional hardware but it's amazing what you can do and it's simple.

I know people added a jumper to override this or pretty sure FORScan you can program it.

FORScan FAQ

In a nutshell it's software that allows you to change parameters, functions, clear codes, read codes etc. on your Ford vehicle via the OBDII port. There is a Lite version for phones and full version for PC. You will also need the OBDII interface module, can be found for under 30 bucks on Amazon.

I think it'll come down to who you choose. I wanted longevity and reliability, so I choose Livernois because they have a solid track record with EcoBoost motors and they simply work. I'm running their 93 race tune on my MKS and have been for over 35K miles now.

I've never heard of the quality of the tune impacting whether or not a dealer can tell if it's been flashed.

There are indeed a number of ways the dealer can tell if a vehicle has been tuned. The number of key cycles, flash counter, cryptographic hash of the ecu image. I am sure there are other methods, countermeasures built into ecu that we know nothing about it. At the end of the day I don't care and will roll the dice, plus I hate going to the dealer for anything, even warranty work. There have been a few issues I could have warrantied on my 14, but have repaired myself, **** warranty service.

Greg it all depends on your relationship with your dealership / dealers competence.

I see it like this

In the end, if they cover any sort of failure under warranty, they get paid (by ford) and the customer is happy.

If they say it’s not covered under warranty, you MAY pay to fix it out of pocket, and you may not. Either way you won’t be too happy.

So dealers usually see it’s in their best interest to try like hell to get shit warrantied. Hell I’ve seen 5.0 engines warrantied when they have Paxton’s on them. :D

A tune will not void your vehicles warranty, a dealership cannot do that. What they CAN do is refuse to work on your car UNDER warranty, which just means you’ll have to pay for the repair, or go elsewhere. :)

That make sense?
