Hi All,

Do you know if all 1993 Cobras came with pre-drilled front license plate bracket holes out of the factory?

I'm looking at one for sale and there is no front license plate bracket or holes? Is this an indication that the bumper may have been replaced?

Thanks for you feedback.

That’s a good and rare thing. The dealers put the holes and plate frame on front. Not the factory. No holes is a good thing !!

I believe the pre-2003 Cobras had two holes drilled from the factory. Not 100% certain. The 2003-2004 Cobra didn't have factory drilled holes, though. If the '93 Cobra you're looking for doesn't have drilled holes, it is possible that it's a replacement bumper. That shouldn't be a deal killer. Only that you should check further for front end damage/repair.

Maybe someone else has some definite knowledge of earlier Cobra factory bumpers being drilled or not drilled.

A lot of owners were lucky enough to get one with out the dealer installed front plate mount ! Like I said. They did not come from the factory with holes. Here’s my 12k mile Cobra I just sold a while back. NO HOLES like I wanted.

Bob, cobras do not come with pre drilled holes.

I do think certain years came with two small dimples in the bumper to show where to drill.

My 93 does not have holes, I’ll have to look to see if it has dimples

I have only owned two Fox body Mustangs, but they both had front license plates. The plate bracket mounted to the underside, top portion, of the lower radiator opening. There were no attachment points on the front side of the bumper cover. I can't remember if my '90 had dimples in the front cover, indicating where to drill. My '93 Cobra does not.

Thanks for the heads up, Dave. I posted the info about "two holes from the factory" after reading a thread on another forum. Did GTs come with holes? Thanks for the correction. ;)

I bought my 93 with the holes, but the previous owner got the painted plugs to fill them in. It is a good option if the holes already exist. The 96 I just bought has the dimples to show where to drill, but no dealer holes.

The bumpers are dimpled from the factory. I know this because I drilled mine out.

Blasphemy, right? :)

If the state (where purchased)required front plates, dealer drill holes unless buyer catches it before they do it. If the state didn't require, dealer mostly wouldn't drill the holes.
