I love how people like to argue it's not a corvette. It's just as much a corvette as baddass03svt's car is still a terminator cobra. Leroy has a LS power plant (4-bolt heads), coupled to a faceplated t56 transaxle in a factory-wheelbase and suspension corvette chassis with a cage. The panels are gone, but it's still corvette/GM dna/base. It's not a tube chassis, backhalved, pro-mod, whatever ground-up build.

Regardless of where you fall in the gm/corvette debate, it's a cool build and it has been fun to watch Cleetus progress. It's one of a few channels on youtube I look forward to watching.

I thought I was looking at a top fuel funny car without the body when I first seen it.

I agree with you 100%. I'm not a GM guy but to see how happy he was and accomplish what they have is no easy task. I do wish he would get a body to put on it just to shut everyone up and see what the car will do.

I really want a faceplated trans for my Fox. lol

Edit- His buddy with the V is a non driving mofo though. Makes me cringe when he drag races haha

I too have been watching Cleetus and his skeletor C5 since he first acquired it and started his quest to go fast. However all of you talking about the money he put into it... I'll bet it's a lot less than you think. I'm betting most of those go fast goodies he gets for free or at a seriously reduced cost due to the free advertising and the revenue he generates from YouTube.

U.M.

Seriously reduced cost, it doesn’t matter what he paid it matters what it would cost to replicate it.

7.04 @ 204 to be exact.

Bitch will eventually be in the 6’s

Hope he does it soon and breaks that record come next Tx2K.
Guys can drive and the car still has the stock shocktowers and could be street able with minor work.
Seeing that car in person made me want to do another damn dsm.

I'm hesitant to respond because I have so much respect for Jake and his build, and I can see this getting in the weeds really quickly. I guess I just don't want to engage in this idiotic comparison.

Then maybe you shouldn't have brought it up in the first place.
However, looking back you just said something that makes more sense now that I have read it again. You weren't saying anything negative about Jake or his car, just giving an example of the fact that it is much lighter and has had some other changes.
If that is the case, then we seem to be fine.

It's still a Corvette.

It's worse off without the body panels.

It's fast as ****.

Jared is gonna bring the record back to KY in his Z hopefully soon.

Props to Garrett though, that thing has a gnarly 60'. If Jared can get his 60' down then he's got it. Like said earlier, he went 8.003 at 189 with a 46mph backhalf on a 1.40 60...

And he’s owned it since new, 23 years. That’s some dedication.

I do know Florida has no emissions requirements so running without cats is legal.
This is not true, running with no cats is still illegal in Florida, there just aren't vehicle inspections any more.

Title XXIII
MOTOR VEHICLES Chapter 316
STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL View Entire Chapter
316.2935 Air pollution control equipment; tampering prohibited; penalty.—
(1)(a) It is unlawful for any person or motor vehicle dealer as defined in s. 320.27 to offer or display for retail sale or lease, sell, lease, or transfer title to, a motor vehicle in Florida that has been tampered with in violation of this section, as determined pursuant to subsection (7). Tampering is defined as the dismantling, removal, or rendering ineffective of any air pollution control device or system which has been installed on a motor vehicle by the vehicle manufacturer except to replace such device or system with a device or system equivalent in design and function to the part that was originally installed on the motor vehicle.
