Wow,.....17 years ago today.
I can still remember where I was and what I felt. I was with my coworkers and we were all huddled around the radio for the whole day. We could hardly work we had some many emotions going through us.

Ari Shaffir had an amazing/heartbreaking podcast episode with one of the EMT/volunteers:

Ari Shaffir's Skeptic Tank #235: First Responder; A 9/11 Story (with Cris Italia) - Ari Shaffir
This is one story of the many stories of that day. Cris Italia was a volunteer EMT and was around the corner when the first plane hit. By the time the second plane hit, he was already at ground zero, helping. It’s a heartbreaking story of what happened to one man the day America stopped being invincible.

It was one of the saddest day I have experienced in my life. I had many friends and relatives who worked in NYC that were in the towers and the surrounding area that day. Some got out but lost two friends who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. Hard to see one friends daughter today who lost her dad on that day. Still makes me angry as hell. And that fat turd Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who was the mastermind of 9/11 still has not been charged for this crime.

I remember I was shopping at Stop & Shop and was heading to the checkout register and heard someone say a jet crashed into the Twin Towers. We thought it was a horrible jet accident. I opened a browser on my iPhone and caught the live news. As I watched suddenly there was a report of a second crash and explosion. At that point the conversations around me shifted from a horrible jet accident to a terror attack. I think all of us just went numb.

Had this picture hanging in my office shortly after it happened.

The patriotism displayed after the attacks was astounding and really stands out to me when I look back. Everyone had flags on their cars and just came together in general. It's just ashame that it takes a tragedy for that to happen.
I remember a PSA that came out shortly after. Black screen, "September 10th, 2001" A single American flag was hanging out front of a row of homes. (Paraphrase) "the terrorists wanted to change the USA." Screen goes black, "they did." "September 12th, 2001" Same row of homes comes back with an American flag out front of every single home.

Can't seem to find it anywhere unfortunately

...and Maximus said to Commodus, "the time for honoring yourself will soon come to an end."

I remember the ad clearly. It actually popped in my head when i was posting about my flag comment above.

I think the first time I saw it was during a Yankee Game. The games where Ronan Tynan would sing God Bless America and i would get something in my eye every time.

It's even more tough for the ones who were there. We just found out last year that my wife's uncle was at the Pentagon when it got hit. He never told any of his family until last year. He was in the Navy at that time I think. I can't remember, the guy was Navy, then Secret Service, then Air Marshall. He's done it all.

He never wanted to talk about it so he just didn't tell anyone he was there. Hard thing to imagine, actually being there and all.

I caught that too. I dont think there were any smart phones then. I had that silver motorla flip phone that was probably the most popular phone at the time.
Bob, you remember things that didn’t actually happen a lot in your old age?

Part of me is glad that mobile technology wasn’t at 2018 levels that day.

I don’t think I could watch FB live videos of the heroes on the PA flight. Nor the last testaments of the people in those goddamn buildings.

I just get so goddamn angry knowing those ****s convinced the passengers of the first planes that it was simply a hijacking. ZERO chance they said otherwise, or else those shiv-carrying ****s wouldve been skull-smashed well before they flew into the towers.

I get so upset and angry, even at the PA crash story. Whether the military brough that plane down or not, those mother ****ers on that plan had to have had those sheep-****ers pissing blood before it went down.

I feel the same way. Best believe if I ever find myself in that position I’m already convinced they plan to kill me so I’m fighting back.
