Anyone want to share with me what it's like to live in California, specifically down in Riverside County?

I have an opportunity I'm looking at, but to make an informed decision I've been researching the actual aspects of relocating there. It feels as complicated and overwhelming as moving to another country honestly.

So my check list - and fill me in if I'm missing something.

Fire-Arms - I'm assuming these all have to remain with the family in the Midwest, (ARs, AKs, Hi-cap pistols, C&R Bolt Actions). My CCW would also be worthless.

Dog - of a Bully Appearance (Half Mastiff Half Lab, 100% Lamb) - Does he need some sort of license or registration?

Cars -
2003 Cobra - High-Flow Cats, No EGR, Aftermarket Blower + Intake - Passed VA inspections 3 years ago.
1991 3000GT VR4 - In Op as it's a restoration. It will not have cats, egr or charcoal can.
2005 Tacoma - Stock but lifted on 33's

What city will you be in? Riverside county is huge, hopefully you are in Corona or Riverside at the furthest. I have been in OC my entire life.

Someone else can chime in on the specifics you asked for, but here is my .02.

Expensive (especially gas), traffic sucks (hopefully you won't need to use the 91 Freeway to commute, it's horrible), and it's not as much of a community as you may be familiar with in the Midwest. Having said that, you have access to so many awesome places whether it be the beach, mountains, or desert all within a 30 minute to 3 hour drive at most. IMO, this is arguably the best place in the world for food. You can get anything, you just need to know which spots. The weather is fantastic, pretty much all year. Lots of women of all sizes and flavors, or dudes if you're into that sort of thing. There are always car shows/meets every weekend from hot rods to super/hyper cars, and you get to see some of the best.

Stay out of LA unless you like random traffic jams.

Cost for property is crazy.

Riverside really isn't great. Not bad, but not great.
Fire-arms- don't bother trying to register
Dog- dog is good, the county might need some paperwork on the dog (just in case it gets lost they know who it belongs to), very easy.
Cobra- not going to pass smog
3000GT- not going to pass smog
Taco will pass.

Hope this helps.

I wish you the best of luck regardless of the decision you make, but personally I would rather be dragged face first through a mile of broken glass than move to California.

(I want to clarify, remove the idiots and it is a truly beautiful state)

Amount of networking one can do is insane.

Not for everyone, though. I can completely understand that.

I wouldn't move to CA, even though the weather is great.

The fact that they make it so hard to obtain firearms and the majority of the state is against them, that is a no no in my book.

Plus, super duper emissions regulations, high cost of living, extreme traffic, etc.

Nope - not enough money in the world to get me to move there.

Well...actually, if somebody wanted to pay me enough to establish my own little fiefdom with my own laws, then yeah, maybe I'd give it a thought. But I still doubt I'd do it.

Try another country....lol. Seriously though my wife's brother has been in Orange County for 30 years working for Boeing. He can't wait for the day he gets the hell out of there most likely to Arizona which makes me happy because I don't visit him in Cali ever.

I have been working on a project in Riverside all year. For the life of me, I cannot figure out where the money goes except torwards the government. The whole town is mediocre and 'smallish,' but the Government complexes are insane and look completely out of place.

I wouldn't move back to CA even if doing so added a zero to my annua income.

Oppressive rules, regulations, and taxes. Horrible business environment. Cost of living absolutely ridiculous.
