Insure it with Haggerty for the total amount you have invested in the car.

Haggerty is great at taking your money...but suck when they owe you money. They screwed my Dad on a tow claim. They were so ridiculous that our agent argued with them. He got no satisfaction, so he pulled all his clients from Haggerty and moved them to a different - cheaper - much better company - Infinity.

Again - this was all over a tow claim. Haggerty sucks ass.

Interesting. I just bought a 1997 Ford Taurus project to be my daily driver. When its up and running, my Shelby will be weekend use only. Im planning some pretty good mods for it, and have been wondering how the hell to insure it properly.

Who do you guys recommend? I see Haggerty and Grundy mentioned. Any other good companies? Its currently full coverage, but Im thinking I like the more specialized insurance approach.

There are collector car insurance companies that you can get a policy on but you're limited to like 7,500 miles a year driving, you get the car appraised and they will cover it for the appraisal amount. You should also be able to add supplemantary coverages if the value of your modifications exceeds that of your appraisal value.

Aside from what's already mentioned, no idea on who else specializes in this.

That's fine for my chevelle but I drive the mustang to much for that.

Good info guys, definitely got me thinking about some different ways to handle it if it ever comes up.

If you don't get stated value insurance, MAKE SURE to get uninsured and under-insured.

All it takes is some lowlife with cut-rate $20/mo insurance to whack into you, they go "oh well, I'm worthless, feel free to sue me" and they're invulnerable.

Guess what? That's what happened to us last year.

Mileage is up yo you and insurer. More miles = a higher premium. Put 68 is allowed 2500 a year. I havent driven 2500 in 5 years. My lightning is also 2500 a year. I do about 1200-1300.

Coupes insured with American collectors for up to 12k. Bumping it when it renews this fall for 18k. If anything happens to it, 75% of it's covered. If it totals it, daddy is buying it back and fixing it. Salvage title or not, I really don't care. It's my turd and i'll let it go when i dang well please.

junk yard, you can get take out coyote motors and stuff there. Im not advocating putting the wrong motor in the car but if someone has a 10k+ forged motor Id be trying to find a correct stock long block to drop in.

I totaled a bike once, the insurance company allowed me to remove my aftermarket stuff as long as I replaced it with the OEM parts.
