If Marauders keep getting talked about, skip the Panther version and go straight for a 1963 1/2 Mercury Marauder. Sure it has 2 doors, but look how long they are: you're kids won't skip a beat flipping that seat and hopping in the back! Just get some dual quads for that FE and you will be ripping!

How about a Lincoln MK Vll LSC? Rare, good looking, decently luxurious, and a good 'ole push rod V-8. The car can be modded just like any 5L Mustang, but is more mature.

They also don’t appear to be any more “luxurious” than a Camry with pleather.

The one my friend paid 1500 dollars for has HID headlights, heated and cooled seats, power adj steering wheel (tilt and telescope) and I believe a 9 speaker audio system.

I know for a fact a camry in 2006 had none of these options.

It really depends on what you're looking for. Most older Benz's are going to be 100k+ miles. I wouldn't touch a first gen CLS or GL. Always something. Both of my current E classes drive like new, no rattles/squeaks, no issues. If I covered up the mileage you'd swear my 13 had 20K miles on it, it drives that good. It makes my 20K mile HC feel like a child put it together. I'm waiting for one of my clients to trade his 15 E63s(212 chassis) lunar blue in on a 2019 E63s(213 chassis). If the price is right on trade in the Hellcat is gone.

What do you know about the 2012/13 c63?

Agree to disagree. Ive also had plenty of e46 3 series back in the day that were pretty luxury for the time that I got for under $5k. Paid $3k for my 150k mile acura that is loaded to the gills and can let go of the steering wheel at 100+ and track straight as an arrow. The deals are out there. Thanks for the negativity though.

Really liking the e55 amg. What should I know about those motors/chassis as far as issues? A few 2004s for sale in the area.

Wait for Rich (who @BlksvtCobra01 tagged) to chime in, he's a Merc specialist.

The air suspension, if it hasn't been replaced, will go at one point. The factory stuff is pricy but there are good replacements out there. I bought mine in 2014 with 49k miles, sold it to my dad early this year with 75k miles. I had 3 of the 4 corners replaced under warranty.

I had an axle and 2 front control arms replaced, also under warranty, but these aren't normal issues.

Motor mounts suck, and will need to be replaced at one point. Cheap and somewhat easy job.

Motor and trans are pretty bulletproof. Easy to mod and a good owner group; AMGs have the best owner's group of any of the Germans that I've seen. Parts are readily available, including any random trim pieces that need replacing.

2003 has a bad cooling system or something that you should stay away from. 2004 is good. 2005-06 are best as they have a mildly updated interior and some upgraded suspension parts.

Just like any of these cars, look for ones with the best service history and records if possible. You might pay more up front but it will be worth it. I got mine for 23k, and many 2nd and 3rd owners treat them as a 23k car. I treated it like a 95k car and it treated me right.

Just make sure you find a good independent Benz mechanic or have an honest dealership for service. Maintenance really isn't that bad on W211 or W212 Es. A V12 S/SL/CL will probably put you in the poor house though!

Thanks to this thread I searched for weeks for a w211 e55. They are more rare and harder to find than the 03-04 cobras! I wanted a loaded one, preferably black or silver. Eventually found one about 40 minutes away that was in need of some love, but the price was right. So far I have done motor and tranny mounts, black grille, replaced command navigation unit, fixed battery drain from OEM amplifier, paint correction and seal, LED parking lamps and fogs, and mounted the like new 19" blizzak snow tires I scored for a song on craigslist. Tires the care came with were smoked anyways. I'll find a set of wheels I like better for spring/summer but these wheels will do for winter beaters.

The car has every option except for adaptive cruise control. Panoramic roof (need to fix that haha), dynamic seats, heated/cooled massaging seats, adaptive headlights, navigation, keyless-go, etc. This thing is torquey as hell! Up next is tinted windows which i am working on learning myself now. That will probably be it until spring when I may or may not do longtubes and a pulley.

What do you know about the 2012/13 c63?

Sorry never saw these. The C63 is a pretty solid car. Biggest issues I see are failed steering column locks. We did see a handful of "lifter" failures on the 6.2 motor but it is rare. My advice, change them when you buy the car.

E55's. Air suspension is the common failure, and extremely expensive to fix correctly in the rear. The rear subframe has to come down to replace the rear air bags. Other 211 issues are central gateways that get wet(probably from ac condensation). And SBC brake systems, but MB has stepped up with a 25 year extension off the top of my head. The drivetrains seem to be bullet proof. I've seen a fair amount of Superchager pulley failures. The fuel tanks on standard 211's are warrantied for 30 years I believe. Not sure if that applies to E55's. I've had 2 211 E350's, an 06 base and a current 07 sport E350. Really are great cars. I also have a 212 E350 sport. A great driving automobile. It has the 276 engine.....on those I've seen some wicking issues from the cam sensor/magnets, basically they start pushing oil through the connector and through the wiring harness and eventually into ME(computer). I replaced mine, and they were dry. My personal E has 132000 and if you were to drive it, you'd swear it had 20K. No rattles, squeaks, everything works. It drives great and is very enjoyable. I have a company car that I'm driving lately, a 19 C300 coupe. 4cyl turbo. It feels peppier than the CTSV, which I know is more to do with the 9spd trans. But it is really fun to drive. I know I'm late, but I hope some of this info is helpful to you.

PM me your VIN, and I can look up if you have any warranty extentions on your new ride.

CHEAP? Last model of the LS400 or the LS430.

10k even. First gen CTS-V. I loved mine, rocked it for 6 years.

Don't the c63s (or anything with the 6.2L) have head bolt problems?

My car also had a "brake service" message when I bought the car. I heard about the SBC warranty and i pulled the code which basically said to check the unit, so I brought it in and the dealer updated the software for it free of charge. No more warning lights.

Not sure why I can't quote. C63's rarely seen issues with headbolts and "lifters". I've got a couple of clients well over 100k on the 6.2 no issues. Really hit or miss.

211's....Fuel tank is warranty extension for 15 years from in service date.
SBC pumps and reseviors are 25 years from in service date. Neither is a recall, so you have to have the specific issue to get it covered, just can't show up and have it replaced. I was going off the top of my head the other day. Just pulled the VMI when I had my 06.

The gas tank is still covered on E55s. My service advisor said the tank is warrantied for the life of the vehicle, it's part of the emission system. Forgot to add mine was replaced as well! If you smell a bit of gas in the car, you need a new fuel tank.

I get a fuel smell in the car briefly after filling up, but not at other times. Tinted the windows last night. Waiting on my 35% for the windshield and then we should be good.

The tank is leaking. The crack is at the top and you typically only smell it when filled all the way up. Bring it in it should be covered. Or PM me your vin and I'll look it up to make sure.

That's how mine started. Then after 2 weeks it was stronger and I could smell it outside the car. Known issue with the car.

@black99lightnin Thank you for the clarification on the tank warranty!
