Brought my car to work today and noticed i was getting a lot of rattling from under the dash drivers side? It has never rattled like it is before.

I've had some creeks that develop during the cold months and thought that was the cause, but it seemed really annoying this morning?

* I have not taken the dash apart since i've owned the car.

Aftermarket Ford racing Quadrant, but my creeks are coming from my dash, Ive had that quadrant for about 2 years this annoying creeky noise just started in the last few months.

Yeah, I had mine for 3-4 years and all the sudden last winter I started hearing this annoying faint rattle that sounded like it was coming from behind the dash, but it was actually the clutch quadrant rattling metal on metal... When your driving down the road and you hear it, put your foot under the clutch pedal and lift up on it and see if the rattle goes away. If so, its rattling on the shaft, metal on metal, as the quadrant wears and the space gets bigger it starts to rattle. I ended up taking the clutch quadrant off and putting a rubber grommet in there.

Also check your center HVAC controls and vent console (the part that you would pop off if you were going to remove the stereo deck). My vents rattled a lot, and I took the center vents out, wrapped the whole thing with some camper foam and re-installed. Also I've had some rattling of the cowling under the windshield... typically it rattles with wind resistance.

Now just in the last couple months my rear deck lid has started rattling. I'm always chasing rattles on this thing... typical SN95... it is what it is... not going to spend 90K on a new cobra... **** that, chasing rattles is much cheaper.

Iam pretty sure its not coming from the quadrant my clutch pedal engagement is pretty smooth and quite, its when the car starts moving and any slight bump, vibration occurs i can here the creaking from the dash behind the speedo/Tach area.

Haven't really checked the HVAC vents, once the weather gets better ill check that. Like i said it seems that the majority of the creek and rattles is from the dash.

I really appreciate your input, and helping me attempt to track this down. Another thing you say typical SN95, but i also own a 99 GT that i purchased new from the Ford show room floor and that thing has never made any type of creaking or rattling from my dash, cowl, etc..

yeah my first one was a Mach 1 and it was fine for the most part but after about 3 years it started having some squeaks and rattles. Then I bought my cobra in 2011- bone stock 2nd owner in Florida. I've been chasing little rattles on that from day 1. The environment and storage has a lot to do with it. Cars out west in dryer climate tend to fair better over the years. I live Colorado now and had I owned it since new here it would probably be in much better shape.

So if your convinced its behind the instrument cluster, that's an easy disassembly if you haven't already done it in the past for a boost overlay or wiring etc... There are a couple things back there like harnesses other loose wiring that could be just in the right position to rattle around back there. I know when I pulled my instrument cluster out the first time I looked for anything that might start rattling down the road and taped or zip tied it.

Oh damn! this entire time i didn't even realize your location on your profile! I'am from the Springs. Like i said i never really had this issue, but it seems like in the winter when its really cold the plastic gets creaky i also here it by the shifter bezel area.

You go to Bandi much? wondering if ive seen your car around?

oh cool, I'm in Monument - just north of you. I've never been to Bandi with my car, been to the NHRA finals a couple times in July. I would love to go some time though. They only do test and tune on Tuesday nights right? Are there any time restrictions for roll cages? I used to go to Palm Beach raceway when I lived in FL. I'm curious how it would run at Bandi. I re-pullied the blower and tweaked the tune a bit after I moved here.

Your not far at all! I just got back from Orlando on business, i also have family their i love it down their.
Bandimere does a lot racing activities through out the summer. I attend the NHRA nationals every year!

Not sure of the restrictions? Aside from helmet and jackets for 11sec and faster but ive ran up there several times and gotten away with just helmet and sometimes didn't even use it. Coming from sea level is always a bit disappointing when you run at this altitude. But a few mods and good tune and you'll pick up what you lose.

They have a yearly All ford Show as well. A lot of the guys from the Springs attend, Pueblo has a track as well they do a lot of test and tunes on Friday nights. Have to stay in touch get together next summer.
