I've seen texting while riding multiple times in Tampa/St Pete, FLA

Yes, don't let bad apples ruin your opinion of all of them, but shit, I've seen a lot of bad apples.

Illinois is one of the few states left without a helmet law, so I've had the opportunity to try both ways. Riding without a helmet is much more enjoyable, IMHO, as long as you're not on the highway. But, obviously, it's ****ing stupid, too.

It's crazy that in IL you can ride without a helmet but it's the law I have to wear my seat-belt. I don't get it... And all the years I rode (15+) I only didn't wear my helmet a few times. Luckily the 1 time I needed it I had it on.

Owned 2 Harleys and a Yamaha Liter bike when I lived in CA. 1st Harley was a Fat Boy. Rode with a half helmet that, in retrospect, offered no real protection to my head. traded in for a Dyna FatBob and finally decided to give a Full helmet a try. After 1 week, Id never ride another motorcycle without a full helmet.

I found myself splitting lanes regularly but not as crazy as some riders did. Though when the freeway was open, I had a hard time not riding near 100 with the Dyna... very underrated motorcycle.

Picked up a Yamaha FZ-1 to commute after I bought my GT500. 70 mile round trip commute, it saved my pocket book. Again, wouldn't even consider riding without a full helmet. Actually got run into while legally lane splitting by a car. Guy was in a rush and not even looking for motorcycles.

Sold it after I moved back to AZ. Not sitting in 100+ weather unable to lane split. That, and AZ drivers quickly proved how absolutely ****ing terrible they are at driving. Ill stay in my cage nice and cozy with my AC thank you very much.

Kommiefornia bike riders are the rudest assholes ever. Can't think of a single state where I have encountered more idiots on bikes than that state
In this situation it was the driver. Lady never looked left. This was in a construction zone too.

99% of car, motorcycle accidents are on cagers. Just listen to them after the accident. They almost invariably say, "I never saw him". Yeah, because you weren't ****ing paying attention.

Not so much the case here in Florida. My friend rode, and went to the funerals of like 3 friends. You get 18 year olds kids who can afford the payment, and nothing else. No insurance, no jacket, and often no helmet. Here, we have 3, sometimes 4 lanes in each direction. These kids use all 3 lanes, plus split lanes to maintain 20-30 over the limit. They brag about running from police. They brag about having hit 160 mph.

I saw one almost eat shit into the rear of a mini van. Dude had to be doing 100+, and a soccer mom was in the middle lane on a 55 zone, got annoyed at the car ahead, signaled, and merged into the left lane....where said squid was moments ago perhaps not even in sight, but was not super hard on his brakes and almost read ended the minivan. He took the mature route of getting next to her, hitting her passenger side door glass with his fist, punching her side mirror, and then taking off at 100+.

Driving home around midnight, I've been passed by bikers at probably 120+. They are just enjoying the wide up straight highway, but they are risking their lives.

I just pulled up a local guy's youtube account, as he likes to film "bad drivers" around town. Recent video has him calling out some people on their cell phone at a light, and thus not going on green. 20 seconds later in the video he makes a remark about a cool car in lane 2. He goes from behind the car in lane 1, into lane 2, into lane 3, passes said car, and back into lane 2, in like 7 seconds. Car's can not accelerate like that, and are not that nimble. Had the cool car ben checking his blind spot and then changing lanes...he could have clipped the rider. Later he's running late to work and in a shopping center parking lot is zipping past cars going 5mph, looking for a spot. Had one of those cars tuned...

Guess you should probably pay more attention to the road if you've NEVER EVER EVER seen a bike going the speed limit, not being a 'menace 2 society'.

Your generalization is flat out wrong, hilarious, and absurd.

If it were a case of a few bad apples I wouldn't make that generalization. When I see ONE, just one rider, doing the press limit I'll change my post.

I'm not trying to be a dick. It's that I literally don't ever see a bike rider that isn't a complete menace.

What is "legal lane splitting"?
In California if traffic is like 25 mph or less, it is 100% legal to lane split between the #1 and #2 lanes at not more than 5-10 mph over the speed of traffic.

Its a law on the books. Previously, it was a gray issue where there was nothing for or against it.

And thus the problem I have with them. They like to split lanes 3 and 4 doing 50+

Lane splitting, or driving on the lane divider lines between vehicles, is both legal and encouraged in many European and Asian countries. It is proven to reduce traffic congestion and speed it up for everyone overall. Surprisingly, it is also proven safer for the biker. Accidents will still happen but by far the most common situation is where a bike gets hit from behind when traffic slows quickly or comes to a stoplight. Driving between lanes helps this a lot.

So why do I still get so mad when I'm stuck waiting my turn and some A-hole on a bike gets to cruise up to the front between me and the other losers in the lane beside me? I better work on my bad attitude, I guess.

All the best.

Don’t understand not wearing a helmet.

Once my helmet is on I forget it is there. It’s not an inconvienence in the least.

What I’d be interested in is taking a group of average street bike riders and take them to a closed course and see what level riders they really are.

Or too many riders aren't following the speed limits. There's that possibility too

I was just reading a study from the national highway safety institute while getting statistics for a reply that said that rear end collisions account for only something like 5% of motorcycle accidents.
