Guys, I am looking for photos or info of anyone who isn't fortunate enough to have tall ceilings in their garage but still has a lift. I'm trying to see if I can stay in my house longer or if I have to sell and move. I don't want to move due to current costs and location, but I must have a lift. Please help with ideas.

I believe the ceiling above the lift is 11’. You have to consider the garage door too. I can only have the Stingray backed onto the lift or the door won’t clear.

OP, How high is your ceiling? 4 post lift or 2 post lift? Are you trying to stack cars? Which?

4 post lift, extra tall extra long version, 11'6" ceiling height and at 6'4" tall I can stand under my Mustang. Anything taller than a car and I can not not stand under it.

I have a 7K 4 post lift that works great...you need the height of cars you are going to stack + 9 inches...so my 2 vettes are 46 & 47 inches + 9...do the math, my garage must be at least 102 inches...It's 126.

My ceiling height is only 8 ft. Lift master has a nee garage door opener which mounts to the spring shaft and clears out all of the room in front of the door. So that would help.

Thanks Greg. Sounds like it's simply too short then.

I have a 12 foot garage on the right side, but the dang Garage Door Opener is in the way. I would love to put a lift in but not sure how I would do it unless I got rid of the automatic door opener.

I built garage addition a few years ago, and the local Liftmaster shop customized two installs for me, very nice job. My 10-foot wide doors are super quiet and smooth.

Regarding your 8-foot ceiling height... damn, that's low for a garage. Most 'standard' garages are 9 or 10 feet.

What's directly about the area where you want to install the lift???? Is there any chance you can get some extra clearance by cutting out the ceiling above the proposed lift area? If it's just attic space, then I'd be chopping it out and framing it in, AFTER I hired structural engineer to approve the plans. Even just a partial cutout may give you enough relief.

Good luck!

You simply need a jack shaft opener that mounts to the wall rather than hangs from the ceiling. Also many times you can reconfigure the door tracks to make it hug the ceiling rather than hang down.

So the good news is, nothing but attic space. However, it is a hip style roof so I don't have a ton of length the duration of the garage as the roof trails down towards the front. I would also need to modify the trusses to allow for drywall to be raised. I imagine trust mod would not be cost effective.
