Crankshaft options...

It seems that FRPP has stopped producing the CJ crankshaft. And, IF you can find one, they're going for about $900 new!

For that price, are there better options?

ModMax has a 4340 forged crank for $829 and MMR has a couple of options too in the same price range.

Are there and positives to going aftermarket, for the same price?

The Cobrajet crankshaft was always production GT500 cranks. Ford sourced double key crankshafts for the Cobrajets, but these were never sold by FRPP. As far as aftermarket, just be aware the GT500 and other 5.4 crankshafts are not the same.

Nope. The part Ford sold as the Cobrajet crankshaft has one key way.

Catmonkey correct.
Some production CJs had dual keyed cranks but the stock crank and available CJ crank are the same, and IMO the best choice for the cost/availablity.
Having a stock/CJ crank race prepped with dual keys is the best choice unless you want 1200+rwhp/7500+rpm and then you need costly billet.
If I were smart I'd buy several OEM cranks before the price increase :)
Good luck

I don't know if you've looked this up recently or not. On Autonation's website the stock crank retails for more than $2100 with a discounted price of $1389.22. Ford has already raised the price and I imagine around the first of next year they'll do it again. I find that manufacturers will start raising the prices of the parts for discontinued models fairly quickly to justify the amount of money they have in inventorying these parts that no longer have any production value. By the time the model is 10 years old the parts will become extremely expensive to purchase, if any of them are still available. I think Ford is worse than Caterpillar in this regard, Cat will stock it they just charge you so much for it that it forces the customer to consider upgrading to new equipment after it is 10 years out of its last production date. I keep telling myself I need to buy a set of cylinder heads, but the cost keeps me from doing it LOL

I have a billet crank in my engine. All I can say is this engine runs so much smoother with a lot less NVH in the car than it did with the stock crank that I wouldn't consider anything else but a new billet crank, especially if you're going to turn higher RPM with a big blower.

Seems I looked that up not too long ago and they hadn't risen to that level. Still have my 5.4 shortblock in climate controlled storage. I need to pick up some heads.

What is the correct part number for the GT500 crankshaft? I have seen a couple for sale and they have a part number of F75E-A17G to my knowledge that is not the correct part number. Trying to clear this up. I have found that number on two crankshafts listed on here from GT500s?

Ford 5.4 Forged Crankshaft

Looks like JDM has them for $900 bucks.

No matter if you pick up a factory, Cobra Jet or custom billet crankshaft, you ABSOLUTELY must pick up a Kinetik Crank Saver Stud kit. It replaces that factory bolt style with an ARP 2000 stud that goes alllll they way down past the undercut fillet. It not only takes the torsional stress completely off the threads of the snout, but it also reinforces the entire snout as well.

I am finding this part number for gt500 crankshaft

7R3Z-6303-A

Is this correct? If so why are the listings I have found showing the F75E-A17G out of gt500s?

I'm not finding many hits on F75E-A17G, other than a few indicating it's a crank kit for a 5.4. Be careful, not all 5.4 crankshafts are the same. Only the Lightning, GT500 and Ford GT are forged, but the Lightning is not the same crankshaft. I'm not sure about the Ford GT, but I'd expect it to be a higher cost option anyway.

The F75E-A17G is a forged Crankshaft but for navigators and trucks from what I was told. I have just seen two different listings of gt500s on here of different model years selling their take out cranks and they both have this same number.

I know the bolts for the balancers are way different and probably impacts the snout lengths as well. I'm talking truck vs. GT500. The DOHC 5.4 and Lightning both vanished 14 years ago, so that part is not likely to be in production. I only see the following crankshafts listed for the GT500 and its:
7R3Z-6303-A ('07-'10)
F75Z-6303-AC ('11-'12) Discontinued
DR3Z-6303-A ('13-'14)

Ford Racing listed the Cobrajet crankshaft as part no. M-6303-C54SC4. Under the application footnote, it listed the following information: Featuring a 106 mm stroke this Ford Racing Cobra Jet Crankshaft Forged Steel Crankshaft is a direct fit service replacement for 2007-2012 Shelby GT500s and the 2008 and 2010 Mustang Cobra Jet race car. It is no longer offered by Ford Performance. Methinks it was the 11-12 crankshaft listed above.

If it were me I would not trust anyone listing F75E-A17G as a GT500 crankshaft replacement. Frankly, you'd probably get a whole lot more information if you'd contact an engine building that specializes in modular Fords.

Yes the 7R3Z-6303-A and DR3Z-6303-A are what I have found to be the GT500 part numbers. I was just surprised seeing two different listings with the F75E-A17G as a GT500 crankshaft that was supposed to be taken out during builds. Thanks for the information.

out of a 5.4 08 gt500. The numbers are correct for the motors . It is a forged crank. The F7 tells you that the other numbers tell you production and application.

That's a casting number, not a part number. That tells me the crank came out of a particular mold as a blank, but the part number may define what machining operations were performed on the crankshaft. That casting number many indicate it's a GT500 crank, I just can't say. If you know it came out of a GT500, I'd represent it as that.

If we are talking about identification of a Cast 5.4 crank Vs Forged 5.4 crank, I have always used the cranks parting line to tell the difference.

Thin parting line = Cast
Thick parting line = Forged

Are the forged steel crankshafts that came with the 2004 and up 5.4 3v's the same as the GT500 or CJ options
