Hey guys so I'm looking at an 01 GT that has a full terminator swap. The car is in Maryland yet I'm from New York. Inspection process is different between the states so the vin of the Cobra pcm was never changed to matched the vin of the 01 GT.

Has anyone ever had any experience with changing the pcm vin to math the body vin?

I've read online that if someone has a Ford IDS system they're able to go inside the pcm and make the change, but I don't know anyone who can do that.

I spoke with my local dealer and they were unsure if they would be able as well (going to call me tomorrow after they call hq supposedly).

I'd love to pick up this car but if I'm not able to get it inspected than it's an expensive lawn ornament.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Do you have an SCT tuner? If so call them and explain the situation. They'll modify your stock tune, you then return your car to stock and it will change the VIN. From there you can reload your tune.

I was in the same situation had an 03 cobra ECU from Ford with no vin and in a V6.

I was not the one who purchased the SCT X4, would they still allow me to do it? And how would they know what my stock tune is?

They didn't ask for any proof of purchase just the serial on the tuner and it being married is all they should need. Stock is just the most recent stock strategy for the ECU. What's done to the car? Only wild card is making sure there is a saved tune on the handheld. Honestly best off getting a fresh dyno tune after anyway when you buy a car without really good documentation.

Okay cool, yeah the cars got a 2.6 KB blower with all the supporting mods for it. Was planning on getting a retune but I needed the vins to match for inspection

Hey man, so I jut called SCT and they said they don't do vin changes in pcm's at all. Said they're not able to and don't have the capability to do it... not sure where to go from there now

There is away around it that is legal. Mine is an 01 gt with a 03 cobra swap I did back in 06, I live in NY and pass fine. I tried to have it changed by my tuner sct or ford and they could not. My vins do not match. After talking to DMV a ton of times and figuring it out. When you get the car inspected they must plug it in twice, It gives you all these warnings, the inspector has to keep hitting ok then it tells to plug into the car again to check it again. Plus you need to do your inspection first thing. A inspection station is only give 5 tries a day at this and you will eat up two. The inspection shop needs to know this, most do not know or have an idea. DMV knows my car has two vins. and there okay with it. There looking for people that do not pass and that plug into different cars. If every year there the same two vins. your good to go.

Good to know... maybe CA is different and it's just not worth risking that to be sent to the Smog Ref... I just passed yesterday after having my VIN updated to match the chassis though so i'm all set finally :)
