I’m sure there have been a lot of threads about this, but I just wanted to get current opinions on the matter because of the situation I’m in.

I currently have a race red ‘17 GT base with LTs, PMAS, tune, and sportlines. I enjoy the car, and have put 14k miles on it since I bought it new last October. It should be noted though that I absolutely hate red lol. It has been a best of 7.71@91mph with a 1.82 60ft on nitto radials. I feel like I’ve hit a wall as far as mods go before I dish out $1300+ on a 4C, install, and retune.

Well I have a chance to trade mine in on a slightly used ‘18 base GT with 3.55s and the A10 with 5,200 miles that came into the dealership I work at. But I’m pretty sure this car has the tick that everyone talks about. I’ve even thought my ‘17 has it, but this ‘18s is much louder it seems. Besides that, I love the car. It’s magnetic grey which is awesome, and has the updated styling that I like a lot. And is currently priced $3000 lower than what I owe on the ‘17.

I really want this car, but I’m worried about that tick. Is this something that dealers are fixing without a huge fight? I’ve read so many forums from people saying it was just bad springs in the IMRCs to bad phasers or even cam or rod bearings and some guys having the whole long block replaced, if they’re lucky.

What are you guys experiences with it?

There are LOTS of threads on this problem over at mustang 6g. Several people have had shortblocks replaced only to have the NEW shortblock ALSO TICK! It seems there is no fix for this yet.

My car has it and my personal opinion is fugg it!!! It runs amazing and I will learn to live with the bbq tick.

My 2018 with an e85 tune only has gone high 7s at 95 mph in the 1/8th and 11.6@122 in the quarter.

There's a difference between a tick and a knock, lets not confuse the 2. The 18's have a bottom engine knock, some 11-17 cars have a top motor tick. the knock is piston slap and is much louder then the bbq tick.. most folks that post their videos of their 18' go to the bottom of the car to get the sound. The tick can be heard best from the top of the motor... if i had an 18 with the knock i'd be concerned also. Don't believe Ford when they say its normal, its not, they don't want to fix it even under warranty. I have a 2016 with no tick or knock thankfully...

Most of the time its not a tick, its the high pressure pump your hearing. I had an 18 and now a 2019. Neither have the tick but I do hear the high pressure pump. Nothing to worry about. The car is under warranty so don't worry about it. The technology Ford put into these cars are second to none!!!
