Hi Guys:
I've decided to keep working on making my GT500 the best handling most fun car I can. I've always wanted it to be a race car for the road- and after the suspension work that I've done, the NT01 285/40/r18s on all four corners on 18x11s, it's there. We did the TVS upgrade, with a new heat exchanger, a MacLeod RXT clutch, a Boost-a-Pump, and a dyno tune and the power is great.

I'm going to gut the interior and get Autopower Industries to do a custom cage/roll bar for the thing. We'll pull out the stupid DVD player dream of the early 2000s hi-fi system the previous owner put in the thing, and finally install my Barton shifter. It will be nice to have no rear seats and plenty of room to lug my CF5 Hoosier track wheels to and from track days!

My question for you guys is for a street legal race car- say I'm going to have a catless offered X-Pipe installed and re-tune- I figure I'll need to put some axle backs on there- any suggestions?

Also do you guys have a favorite fixed back seat? I like the price of the Corbeaus but are Momos or Sparcos or Cobras worth twice as much money?

Any hints on ripping up carpets, removing door panels, and four versus six point roll bars?

Any other advice on how to make a GT500 less of a pig? Or maybe a little bit more of a lean wild boar maybe? Carbon hoods, trunk lids, doors, quarter panels, light batteries, carbon driveshafts, Lexan windows, what should the order of priority be?

I've got a NASCAR style blade spoiler that I know won't provide as much down force as a good wing- but with a good wing I'll need to add a matching big front spitter too- which could be in the cards...not sure though. It is also important what the thing looks like- and a stripped down NASCAR/Trans-Am appearance appeals to me more than a GT or PikesPeak car with a bunch of active aero.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Powered windows and mirrors actually don't weigh that much.....the AC unit does though!

Thanks!
Craig

Sounds like you already have a great list. Your getting rid of the heavy OEM stuff and lightweight aftermarket will make the car better. Look at APR performance for your aerodynamics. Light weight rotors, seats, kmember, rims etc

did some research and ordered up some Kirkey 55 seats in the 16" size with red covers. They're really light- felt comfy and racey- and i also got some adjustable mounts from fathousefabrications so i can adjust the position of them before we end up bolting them in. the whole set up for seats, covers, and the mounts ended up being less than a what it would have cost to get a single Sparco or Momo or Cobra r whatever and these things honestly look and feel more pro and they're super light!

AutoPower Industries is going to make and install a four point roll bar set up in the car. I was originally going to get the harness bar and diagonal cross bar welded in as well- but they convinced me to do the bolt on so it'd be easier to lug my race wheels around and with the rear seat delete- carry my bicycles to and from our bike shop!

i also test fitted my race wheels and race rubber yesterday and i think everything is going to work. they're 18x11 Forgeline CF5s with 35mm offset and I've got 305/685/R18 Hoosier/Continental g5000 slicks on them. These tires I guess were made for endurance racing on super speedways so they take a while to heat up- have super super stiff sidewalls, wear like iron but aren't quite as grippy as say a Hoosier R7. But they were literally $75 a tire- so as long as they're as grippy on the track and last at least as long as a $300 Nitto NT01- I figure I'm doing great.

I need to get a spoiler-less trunk lid from a junk yard so I can put my five-star Blade spoiler on it and start playing around with the aero thing. I'm signing up to do the American Muscle Cup Series down here in SoCal and I think I'm well on my way. I know I'd probably be better off had I started with a Boss 302- as our cars are never not going to be big fat pigs that run super hot- but I love the way this car puts the power down and it handles really well actually. I'm sure I'll get smoked but I'll have fun-plus I can always take the car to drag strip too and run respectable times there. I see no reason why I can be in the low 11s with this car right?
