A lot of haters on here. A Lincoln and Escalade may be luxurious, but they will never be as fun to drive as a Cayenne Turbo. Literally you hit a button and the suv raise up and is in 4x4 mode, hit another button and it lowers a couple of in inches and you are in performance mode and the transmission shifts different, the throttle response is completely changed and your ready to rock and roll. If you want to cruise down the highway in comfort not feeling any bumps, then there is a mode for that too. The fact that it can tow 7500# is just a bonus. I don't know many other performance vehicles that are as versatile. As far as reliability, go look at sixspeedonline and Rennlist and research the reliability and towing capabilities.

Yeah, the haters obviously don't know anything about the Cayenne. The thing has an offroad mode and locking differentials! It also has a tow mode. And speaking of towing, did you know its tow rating is just 300 lbs less than a crew cab Raptor? Did you know its tow rating is 1700 lbs more than the standard cab Raptor?? It has a tongue load rating of 775 lbs. Looping back to the offroad thing, someone asked who would want to risk damaging a Cayenne offroad. Probably the same type of person who would risk damaging an $80K Raptor offroad. There are plenty of videos on Youtube of people beating the crap out of Cayennes offroad. Some of it on some extreme terrain.

Yeah, that was posted earlier in the thread. It's a good article and pretty much squelches the whole "it shouldn't be used for towing" argument. It's almost my exact configuration; vehicle and boat. And I wouldn't even be towing it anywhere near as far. But after reading that, I'd be pretty comfortable towing a boat to Lake Lure or down to Lake Marion or Lake Moultrie in SC. Or for that matter, all the way to the Outer Banks.

I linked that to him :D This thread is so big now.

I know! And it's mostly hater commenters.

I haven’t really commented in this thread, but I was surprised and impressed by the Cayenne. I guess for that kind of money it should be able to do almost anything

Its such a unique vehicle. Used ones are not so expensive, and the repairs aren't all that much, at least on a 957, given that a good number of its failing parts are VW parts.

Its just scary because its German.

Porsche is the only German make that doesn’t scare me, most models are built like tanks. The only one I’d shy away from would be the panamera, for starters I hate it’s looks, but it’s apparently fairly problem prone.

i went for a Ring taxi ride in a panamera. i asked them about the M5 and the driver said they have a few of them but they are constantly in the shop with problems. he said the panamera was by far more reliable and a better car. just my 2 cents from what i was told by someone who beats on them for a living (pro driver).

i love the cayennes. if you can afford it and dont care about depreciation or maintenance or whatever, and it will do what you want, go for it!

ive driven a macan s in a spirited fashion and was impressed. i can only imagine that the cayenne is fantastic as well, especially in turbo form. im sure it would be far more fun to drive than any other suv out there, which is why id love to have one.

here in so cal, they have the Porsche driving experience. they have an off road course for the Cayenne and macan. its not rock crawling but few oem vehicless are aimed at that anyways. if theyre encouraging customers to drive these things off road and willing to even train them to do so i would think they would be built to handle it.

450HP and 935TQ not enough performance? A simple tune and bolt ons put it easily at 600 RWHP and 1,000 RWTQ.

It might not be a “handler”, but I would not say it lacks performance.

Definitely. I have a cousin that is in to hotrodding diesels. Not my cup of tea, but I can definitely respect them. I took a ride in single cab superduty he’d swapped a bullet proof’d 6.0 diesel into, holyshit that truck was terrifying! I don’t know what all was done, would wager the whole kitchen sink, it was very impressive.

My douchebag brother in law just purchased a Macon. It’s too small imo, plus I don’t like it because he has one now :)

it is small but its more like a porsche hatchback than an "SUV". great acceleration and handling for a vehicle of that type.

Definitely. Back in my C5Z06 days, I had a diesel keep up with my ass up to the triple digit speeds, where I finally started to pull away. I was very surprised and impressed.

There are some bad diesels down here last I recall.

But for the OP, if the Raptor was too big, F-250's are going to be a no go due to length. Platinum 250's are nice as hell though with some good tech.

Haha tanks. Sure they are well armored, but then they go and make pulleys and coolant tubes out of plastic... lol.

Again, most failure points are VW part equivalents, so can avoid the Porsche Premium Part™ for most of the weird bits.

OP is probably ordering/leasing new, so maintenance and parts is a total non issue.

Uh-oh! A game changer has entered the ring! The 2020 Mercedes GLE looks to be a good contender. That E-Active body control is wild! And it has a 7200 lbs tow rating. It's hugely different from the '18 that we drove. I was wondering why it looks smaller than the 2018 we drove and looked up the dimensions. The '20 is actually a few inches shorter in length than the '18. Those few inches make a huge visual difference. It's a good thing I looked, too. The 2020 GLE got smaller, and the 2019 Cayenne got bigger. So they're closer in size, but the '19 Cayenne is slightly bigger than the '20 GLE. And call me crazy, but '20 GLE has a very Cayenne-esque vibe/style to it. Incidentally, the 2020 GLE will be going on sale in the States around the same time the '19 Cayenne Turbo S will be available. So the upcoming GLE goes back on the list. I'm assuming there will be a 63 S version.

Mercedes looks kinda like a Traverse or Acadia on the outside. Front and rear anyway.

This.

Porsche would easily get the nod on looks alone.

I'm actually still researching the vehicles. The engineering that went into it still gives the Cayenne the nod. Also, the Porsche materials such as the carpet seem to be a bit more upscale than the Merc. Looking at the two, the finer details start to make themselves known.
