Negative ghost rider. I'd agree maybe if talking compact tractors.
Their ZTR mowers are good but not above all.

Very fair point. I owned a BX2200 for about 10 years and never had a single issue with it. Once I moved to a place with only 1 acre, I sold it and went with one of the smaller Kubota ZTR's. Outside of an issue with the PTO switch that took 4 trips to the dealer to get resolved, it's been great. Time will tell how it'll hold up.

Lawn Mowers are my passion. lol
I study and search them constantly. I usually buy used because what I need just cost more than I want to spend new. I cut 13+ acres weekly. Mostly open but not smooth and lines of trees. I was in a Lawn business with a friend for about 4 years and I still have 1 big commercial account.
A good friend is in sales for JD and a even closer friend owns the local Kubota dealership. I keep tabs on what's lasting and what isn't very well.
I've owned almost all brands, Exmark, Hustler, Bobcat, Kubota, Bad Boy, John Deere, Snapper and even Cub Cadet Commercial.

If I were buying new for my personal property it would most likely be a Hustler. That's providing I'm going commercial. On some of their smaller/residential units they have also gone the way of other brands with a 1 piece Pump and Wheel motor. I want separate pumps and motors.

I went through this Problem myself and enddd up with a used JD 2520. The use of the front end loader has been priceless and more then paid for its self by now with all the home projects I’ve done with out needing to contract out.

I'll also ad, if you're not going with a diesel, make sure it has a Kawasaki engine...

I've heard that from many people, so yes that is on the top of the list.

I definitely don't classify this as a "fun" purchase, but having been burned buying cheap before, I'm ok with "Buy once cry once." Plus maybe it'll motivate me to spend more time working on the yard than sitting around dwelling on bullshit. I think that's my neighbor's tactic.

No love for Cub Cadet? I've had an LT1050 for 12 years, no problems. It does everything it's supposed to. Zero failures so far. 50" cut, plenty of power & does good on gas. I'd be hard pressed to change brands when I need another one someday.

Cut Cadet residential mowers are made by MTD now. Same as Murry and other cheap big box stores. My 48 is a Cub Cadet Recon. Part of the commercial Tank series. It cuts beautiful. It has had a few issues for only having 350 hours or so.
Some of it was the Kohler Command engine though. Coil packs and then head gaskets.
The spindles for a couple years (Mine included) used tapered roller bearings in the spindles. Not bad considering I can rebuild all 3 spindles for about $70 but if you remove blades to change or sharpen you better TQ it back to 110 ft lbs.
Do it with a impact like I did before I learned better and you will be rebuilding soon.
Also a good thing I tore them apart and learned how they were built. Cub Cadet tells you they are not rebuild-able and the whole spindle is $167 each.

So yea, while I can attest that the commercial models are decent machines they would not be my first recommendation.

I'm currently in process of getting quotes for an X738. Love the quick connect deck. Coming from an X534 (4 wheel steer) but never felt like I could mow in a straight line (not cause the cup holder..lol) just feels twitchy. Otherwise it has been solid and a great performer. Having 4 wheel drive will help with the WI winters as I do get stuck quick often plowing with the 534 (have a concrete driveway so don't want to use chains).

I hear ya on the straight lines...although my cup holder is equally responsible!

I have an 8' plow on my Excursion so I didn't need the 4 wheel drive. And my plowing lines aren't straight either...because of the cup holder.

Might as well go all in and get a sub-compact tractor and be the ****ing man.

Usually can score a new 1025R, with Loader, Backhoe, and Mower Deck for around 20k, sometimes they will even throw a trailer in with it.

Add a plow down the road, and your set for all of life's challenges.

I almost convinced myself I needed one. I'll have one, one day.

Just look at how much fun this guy is having.
